i used a white crayon, rubbed it around the areas that had the words engraved and buffed it up with a soft cloth.i've been told it's easy to remove.haven't tried it cause i just tried the crayon thing.

That does look nice, have you shot it yet?

I've always wondered the melting point of a crayon. I wonder if shooting would get it hot enough to get the crayon running. Though it's not that much.

You'll have to keep us posted.

FYI,

Brownells sells a paint stick for a couple of dollars that rubs paint into the etching. Lasts longer and less likely to get washed out when you clean the gun.

I've used it on a couple of Glocks.

i haven't shot it yet.maybe it'll be a good reason to go back to the range [wink]

I've looked high and low for a white China Marker. It's just a while grease pencil. Anyone have a lead on some?

Try an AC Moore craft store. I never figured i'd have a use for such a place until my wife dragged me in there. Its almost as good as Home Depot for oddball specialty things you never knew you needed til you saw it. [lol]

Don't have an AC Moore around, never heard of them but we have a new Michael's that I never thought of until you mentioned Moore. Thanks.

Michaels is the same as ac moore but ac's bigger store.they should have what your looking for.

I would expect white china markers to be available at OfficeMax, Office Depot, Staples.

I'd also expect it to melt and turn to goo when the barrel gets hot!

The paint stick cost $2.18 from Brownells (C&R discount price). Just add it to your next order. The paint stick has survived being swabbed with Hoppes NO. 9.

We're not talking about a rilfe or shotgun, but a handgun with a slide.
The barrel might get hot, but he's working with the slide.

I'd be suprised if it becomes much of a mess.

That being said, most the people I know have used White out and alcohol. (To clean up)

Hi Mike,

Try the crayon on a H&K P7M8 and tell me that only the barrel gets hot! [lol]

After 1 or 2 boxes of ammo, there isn't anything you can hold onto unless you are wearing Nomex! No kidding!

Len,

I've only fired a few rounds out of a HK P7M8, so I can't speak to it.
However, I've fired hundreds of rounds out of a glock in a single session and it wasn't bad.

Mike

Mike,

Join me at BR&P one day and I'll bring the P7 . . . it is a very different experience! It shortly feels like you are holding onto a copper pipe while a plumber is using a hi-temp torch on it! [wink]

Of course Tupperware doesn't get hot from shooting! :) No comparison.

Another one is the white paint stick used to hi-lite raised letter tires. Can be found at any auto parts store.

That's exactly what I used to "highlight" the rear sight of my Security Six about 5-7 years ago. It's still nice and white...

(I did "splurge" for a nice orange millet sight, but it's still in the box going on a year now. I need to get it to Bob's to see if they can put it in - plus it gives me a reason to check on the progress...)

Just heard today re: Bob's...not yet.

Len -
Ya don't need to offer a few rounds out of the HK to get me to BRP.

I'll see if I can wrestle up a 3rd gen glock for ya to try.

To Everyone else:
I think glocks are some of the sloppiest, ugliest, most boring firearms on the planet. They just happen to go bang every time and that's all I care about in a defensive firearm.
Reminds me of the quote/saying - Democracy is the worst for of gov't, except for everything else thats been tried.
(Or something like that)

Mike

Mike,

Thanks. No hurry on the Gen 3 . . . first Glock has to resolve their warranty issues for MA residents before I buy another Glock.

As for BR&P, just give me a shout. And I don't mind dusting off the P7M8 anyway as I haven't shot it in ~4 months now.
