"I Am Adam Lanza's mother." (ARTICLE)

GMAFB.

"You can't wear whatever pants you want to," I said, my tone affable, reasonable. "And you definitely cannot call me a stupid bitch. You're grounded from electronics for the rest of the day. Now get in the car, and I will take you to school."

I live with a son who is mentally ill. I love my son. But he terrifies me.

What does this have to do with....anything?

Adam Lanza's mother had a mentally ill kid in her house.
I wish she had kept her guns locked up.....

I havent seen mucn mentioned thus far, but I think they will find that medication - lack of, side effects, too much, etc. may have played a significant role....

I haven't heard much about Adam Lanza's mother by the media (maybe a good thing). But has there been any reports or credible info about her being a shooting enthusiast? Because for a 40+ single mother of 2 adults, having a Bushmaster, a Sig, a Glock and possibly a Saiga 12, really makes no sense.

What should a 40+ single mother of 2 adults have, in your expert opinion?

Really? Another "enemy, self...self, enemy" thread?

Or did you mean she should have more? [wink]

The problem I have with this article is that we do not know the full assessment of the killer's background, so some of her comparisons may not be entirely accurate.

The overall message about mental health issues is a very important one, and much more on point than guns being evil....

Guns being evil is not a point, it is a mental illness unto itself. The point that our societal and the medical institution's approach to mental health is in need of change is a valid point.

Unfortunately though, focusing on "mental health" there will ignore some of the deeper causes of the break-down and abdication of parenting we've seen happen in recent generations and the socialist ideas of kids being the property of the state and merely entrusted to parents and schools for their early care.

to people like us, yes. But to those who are anti-gun, its as valid as valid can be in their eyes.

If that kid had aspergers then its DEAD on.... a coworker's daughter had this, and she cracked a large televison over his head because she wanted the "red" fork... not the "blue" one.. True story. No Emotional feeling, empathy, or reason at ALL.

I work with students with these types of issues. I am still awaiting more information before making judgement.

Im sorry for my ignorance. I don't come from a family or friends where women are particularly into or fans of firearms, so my ignorance definitely showed thru with that comment. Thinking about it now, it was a stupid question.

It is hard to understate the programming that we have all endured - whether you grew up in a free state or not. It has been a sweeping and effective campaign from primary to secondary schools and all media outlets.

Unfortunately, as we have seen throughout modern history, society can be driven quickly to some absurd and horrible consensuses via media. Driven, literally, to mass murder.

It is an effective and deadly medium if not constrained by each of our ability to educate ourselves independent of what we are "told."

Obama's interrupt of the football game is a grotesque example of this. He knows many would be watching and distracted by the game. So, inject the seeds of his designs into the minds of millions in a matter of 30 seconds. Repeat often over the next few weeks and pave the way for legislation next month.

no they have already determined that the guns played the most significant role that day, nothing else matters with this case open and shut for them really.

If you think that that's typical of all kids (or adults) with Asperger's, I'd highly recommend a little reading before you go jumping to conclusions. Yes, it fits for some, but it's completely the opposite of how others act. It's not like smallpox or the flu, where you have it or you don't. It's referred to as a spectrum for a reason.

And yet individuals who I have dealt witoh aspergers would not think of cracking a tv over someone's head. Go figure. Ron

I will be a while (if ever) before we have any credible information about what it was like in the Lanza's household.

The article does illustrate the difficulties of living with a mentally ill person. Most people have no idea what it's like.

It seems that many of these events involve someone with a cognitive disability...perhaps we should be talking about how Carter gutted the mental health system and how to fix that little problem.
