Just became a Cat 5 with 165mph winds. Texas is going to get creamed. I hope everybody gets out, they have plenty of time. I bet U-hauls are hard to come by.

Talked with my brother this morning and even though he's not near the coast depending on where it hits will depend on how much wind and rain he'll get.

I'm in San Antonio right now. My hotel in downtown is already full of
victims of Katrina, and the folks from Galveston are finding places to go kinda scarce. Even, all the rental cars are rented out. (Except the last one I just got.)

Right now the path is coming to shore around middle Texas coast, and then tracking just East of San Antonio. Should start raining Friday morning with the storm in San Antonio proper by noon or so.

I guess I will take the 7am flight and not wait......

But, don't worry guys, I will have time tomorrow to stop by Nagel's Gun Shop, one of the largest in Texas.

Be safe traveler. My brother informed me also it is the tornadoes this is most likely to spin off also that could make it bad.

Yea, get home safe...

And I hope that you're not on a Jet Blue Flight.

[lol] [lol]

In all fairness, that pilot kicked some serious ass. I'd fly with him/her any time, and I hate flying.

Yea, that was pretty sweet. I was watching Still Standing when my Mother-in-law called me and said to turn on Fox News.

Did you see all those sparks? It was a pretty good landing.

Safe trip home, traveler.

I just got this email from a friend in San Antonio last night:

Thanks Ross. We're about 180 miles from the coast so should only get rain and wind. Hotels in SA are at 98% capacity from folks heading inland. Rita sure did a number on a BBQ we had planned at a friend's ranch on Saturday. Lots of carnivores and shooters were supposed to be attending to eat BBQ and shoot shotguns, pistols, and rifles at the 'range'.

I'll have to stock up on hurricane supplies tomorrow - tequila and margarita mix. If I can't shoot, I might as well enjoy a cold margarita.

Looks like I'm finally going to go get my CHL. Texas reduced the price for active duty military, so I'm going to take advantage. Classes are 5 Oct, so hope to have the permit a couple months later.

Harry is an Army doc and an all around good guy. And a shooter, as you can see. :)

Regardless of how thinly resources are already stretched or how strong the storm gets before making landfall, this one won't be anywhere near as bad for one simple reason: Texans aren't going to sit on their asses waiting for the government to tell them what to do, rescue them or otherwise take care of them.

Nor, do they inhabit a town 6' below sea level.
