How the Military would crush a rebellion

It wouldn't be just one state it'd be the entire country most military men wouldn't stand against Americans fighting for the constitution they would be along side them they'd be raiding equipment from national guard bases people trained to use the equipment it'd be full blown war with tanks helicopters planes on both sides. We outnumber the gov 100-1 they can't handle 10000 soldiers in Iraq they can't handle 100 million at home

this was my comment I left on the article

The way I look at it is if a militia were every to start taking their country back, you have to ask yourself the same question Americans had to ask themselves back in 1861, can I shoot my own people? I would be willing to bet since the majority of the ground troops that would be ordered in would be young men with little to no combat experience would not be able to shoot their own people and would either defect or go awol. The second thing you need to consider is the backlash the government would get from taking any lethal action on its own people, it would make every single person in the militia a martyr and would only strengthen the rebellian against the government.

We've been in Afganistan for how long against how many?

Guerrilla warfare is nothing like real warfare. Soldiers called up to duty and obeying unconstitutional orders would have to deal with their own houses being burned to the ground and their families in danger.

The US military is not capable of winning such a war.

we cannot fight this fight with guns alone. it is 2012, there are many more tools at our disposal. you cannot assume a 100% commitment of the oppressed too many sheep within them. the militia must wage a full out impact on all fronts at their disposal. force being one of them. had we had the tools we have today back in 1776 the 2nd amendment may have contained a couple more things along with firearms.
sorry for the vague comments but too many troll and should I say, spies floating around. we have the power to do it.

Martial Law would be declared. The JBTs from all the militarized alphabet soup agencies would have a field day violating citizens' rights. Suspected "terrorists", aka patriots, would disappear after their houses were raided without due process. It would be ugly. Eventually enough citizens would get outraged and people are drawn in from the sidelines. Some military personnel will go awol or join the rebellion. Others would have qualms about fighting their fellow citizens, but still carry out their orders.

ETA: Lots of checkpoints, searches, and confiscations.

And who would be the people responsible for crushing the rebellion? You mean US troops? More than half would quit if they were ordered to confiscate firearms or shoot other Americans.

That article starts off with a somewhat stupid premise - that the rebels would "occupy" a city.

Why occupy a city? That's just sort of stupid. You don't want to rule the cities - you want to rule the countryside. Without the countryside - the cities starve to death. Start blowing up rail lines that haul food into the cities and blowing up highway bridges - and you could very quickly present the government with a real problem if you just left the cities to them.

I remember reading stories about the fall of the Soviet Union - and one of the things that stood out was how when the government fell it wasn't that big of a deal. One of the reasons for that was that people in the cities all had little gardens - because the supply chain was so damn inefficient. Also the Soviet command economy did stupid shit like fill up warehouses full of product that they didn't need right away. So the economy implodes - and you need a new pair of shoes - somewhere there's a warehouse with like 5 years supply of shoes. And you're already growing your own food anyway even if you live in the city - so if the supermarkets are empty for a few days - it's a "who cares - nothing unusual to see here " type of event.

That's NOT the way the US functions. We live in a just in time economy - there are not that much leeway in the supply chain to tolerate shocks to the system - and it would completely vulnerable to attacks. Look at what happens whenever there is a big storm and the power goes out - people go crazy buying up all the water in every supermarket around.

If you were a "rebel" - the stupidest thing you could do would be to take over a city and assume that burden. Start attacking the infrastructure - then start a propoganda campaign about how the government is trying to starve people, there's huge warehouses full of food underground in strategic locations around the country - but only for govt. employees - etc.

Put the burden of the socialist class squarely into the governments hands - and make them pay for creating and encouraging it in the first place. Also attack the banking structure - if Anonymous is as good as they claim to be - maybe they could just lock up the electronic banking system. That's going to totally screw with the cities more than the countryside.

If you really want piss people off - you go in - occupy a city - start a battle against government forces - then as soon as they start bombing the crap out of everything and killing all the city residents - you skeedaddle out of there and leave behind the pissed off population of the city for the government to deal with.

Seriously people - use your damn heads.

Allow me to play this out for you, as a National Guard soldier.

*ring ring ring*
Me: "Hello?"
Squad Leader: "Hey Sgt. <name withheld>, we're getting activated, the NGB(National Guard Bureau) has sent in orders that we have to go (put down a rebellion/confiscate guns), I don't think it's constitutional, but I'm passing the orders along for you to decide."
Me: "Pass it to higher that I will not take part, and will resist any efforts of theirs to force me into it. I'll be in this week to sign the Article 15 or whatever. Let top(First Sergeant) know that I'll fight this in court."
SL: "I figured as much, he said the same thing"
Me: "Yeah, I don't see too many in the unit following along with this asshattery."
SL: "Me neither. See you at drill!"
Me: "Yep, later!"
*click*

...that's about as verbatim as it would happen, the dialogue might be different, but that is exactly what would happen. My unit consists of about 90% libertarians/conservative tea party and 10% undecided and Obama supporters. We aren't going to do shit to support something that stupid, and we're the ones who A) respond to natural disasters and B) Respond to terrorist acts and man-made disasters(building collapse/ plane crash/ bombing) Level 2 confined space rescue, level 2 rope rescue, Hazmat... look it up: CERF-P

When it comes down to it, most in the military come from traditional American families. Grew up around guns, friends own guns, parents own guns, they have always been around. Its a concept that is 1) In the Constitution 2) Close to the hearts of probably 90% of military members.

I can't say I can predict how such a situation would evolve or that I'm completely confident that *something* bad would not happen for a while/on small scales but if it really got ugly, things would start to break down.

I've read some history of the civil war that has stories of Union troops finally getting down south - after being exposed to all the Northern "propoganda" - and finding that the slaves weren't really living all that badly in some cases as they thought they were. Those Northern troops basically started asking themselves : WTF? - Why am I here?.

That didn't stop them from obeying orders - breaking camp the next day - and shooting at Johnny Reb.

Last time I checked it was "US troops" who gunned down un-armed college students at Kent State.

And it was US troops that burned up whole villages and shot unarmed peasants in the rice fields on Vietnam.

I've met quite a few VERY left people - who were veterans of the US military - and fully believed that US military forces should be used for shoving "civilization" down people's throats.

I'm pretty sure the appropriate propoganda will be generated if there is ever a rebellion in the US - to get sufficient number of US troops to sign on to our new overlords and do what they say.

"Just following orders..." will be as applicable to this conflict as any other conflict.

I'd be more worried about the armies that would see us squabbling and use it as an opportunity to get a foothold on this continent. I welcome our new Soviet Overlords! Please, allow me to welcome you with glass of wodka, and we shall go and enjoy glorious work of brother Kalishnokov! [rofl]

...it would probably be the Chinese, in hindsight...but I can't make that idea funny, so the Soviets were it [thinking]

Anyone see the movie Lincoln ? Notice the propaganda on presidential power in that ?

Yup, saw it last night.

The military sheds blood around the world for the very freedoms that the American rebels would be fighting for. Put one and one together.

I don't think our military would fire on their own people. That's Hollywood shit..

Hahaha, yeah just like we crushed the Vietnamese and Afghanis. How many years have we been there? With the full might of our aircraft as well? And armor? Good luck dropping ordinance on US soil from f18s and a10s. I love these articles, they forget the conflicts that we were in that would be childs play in comparison based on sheer size alone. Let's not forget that 50% of the soldiers right off the bat would tell the brass to foad.

The conflict would be a nightmare, but Washington will eventually wish they never poked that monster, because they would wake up one day with armed citizens surrounding D.C.

You guys are retarded if you think cops and soldiers won't shoot Americans. How many cops resign after a wrong address no knock homeowner shoot? How many resign from the SWAT team? That's what I thought. Anybody that fights cops or soldiers in a revolution is doing it wrong. If such a thing happened you super fighters need to kill pols, selectmen, elected dog catchers and their families. Yeah the cops would be the enemy but engaging them is a losing battle. You don't even need guns, most of those guys are fat bastards, a brick or fire will do the trick.

The Egyptian military wouldn't open up on their own people. If they wouldn't, the U.S. military definitely wouldn't. Cops are a different story (my apologies to all the cool cops though).

.mil doesn't do asymmetric warfare well.

They only calmed Iraq down by bribing mullahs and other influential types with billions of dollars.

They can't subdue Afghanistan and there are no more than 10K ragtag "fighters" there. Imagine the devastation if these current batch of uneducated knuckle dragging ragheads were not only replaced with pissed American citizens who can not only fight, but know EXACTLY where the homes and families of the police and .mil are...game over

Posse Comitatus would be suspended as it has been in the past. If only a small spark then they would try to use troops that weren't from that geographical area. That would help keep them "detached". After that spark/uprising/rebellion was quashed it will go one of two ways; everyone else falls in line or the squashed regional uprising acts as a catalyst for the rest of the disgruntled around the US. If it's the later then the government would have problems. More troops are needed to quiet the unrest. Now private Snuffy attached to a unit in Wyoming hears his Korean War vet uncle granddad, or whatever is killed by a fellow federal troop. This started happening to other families of our military. Suddenly troops aren't so eager to fight King Obama's battles. This doesn't even take into account the troops that refuse to take part from the very beginning. Troops start switching sides, possibly whole units and they take their toys with them.

Yep. It would be terrible, but it would not last, and the gov would NOT win. Nothing short of breaking the geneva convention, throwing together concentration camps, gassing cities, and dropping ordinance on urban areas, there's no feasible way that the government could fight off a long term guerrilla style war against a large, armed force on American soil. We have the most diverse landscape on the face of the planet. Again, there wouldn't be enough places in the world for the gov to hide if they started going after citizens. All they would have to do is drop ordinance in a suburb, kill a few kids, and watch the fireworks. DC would fall in a year.

I thought it was going to be a multi-national UN force of smurfs that was supossed to disarm the U.S. civillian populus.

That whole thing played out in a few seconds when one troop panicked. If I remember right it was a long time before national guard were given ammo for riot control. Ammo was kept in the rear with higher echlon.

And it was US troops that burned up whole villages and shot unarmed peasants in the rice fields on Vietnam.
While those war crimes are terrible the troops weren't doing it to fellow Americans.

I don't know if you've ever served, but the real lefties in the military are rare. Most are moderate to right.

I agree with your propaganda statement. In the war of information we've lost. That's half the battle. A big target for a rebellion would have to be media outlets.

Hahaha, yeah just like we crushed the Vietnamese and Afghanis.

I'm not a Vietnam vet, but I'm pretty sure the ones we have on NES will confirm the war was being won on the ground. It was lost at home by turds like Walter Cronkite. The U.S. pulled out in 1973. South Vietnam didn't fall to the north until 1975.
