The way I look at it is if a militia were every to start taking their country back, you have to ask yourself the same question Americans had to ask themselves back in 1861, can I shoot my own people? I would be willing to bet since the majority of the ground troops that would be ordered in would be young men with little to no combat experience would not be able to shoot their own people and would either defect or go awol. The second thing you need to consider is the backlash the government would get from taking any lethal action on its own people, it would make every single person in the militia a martyr and would only strengthen the rebellian against the government.
Which is why we have Posse Comitatus.
When it comes down to it, most in the military come from traditional American families. Grew up around guns, friends own guns, parents own guns, they have always been around. Its a concept that is 1) In the Constitution 2) Close to the hearts of probably 90% of military members.
I can't say I can predict how such a situation would evolve or that I'm completely confident that *something* bad would not happen for a while/on small scales but if it really got ugly, things would start to break down.
"Just following orders..." will be as applicable to this conflict as any other conflict.I've read some history of the civil war that has stories of Union troops finally getting down south - after being exposed to all the Northern "propoganda" - and finding that the slaves weren't really living all that badly in some cases as they thought they were. Those Northern troops basically started asking themselves : WTF? - Why am I here?.
That didn't stop them from obeying orders - breaking camp the next day - and shooting at Johnny Reb.
Last time I checked it was "US troops" who gunned down un-armed college students at Kent State.
And it was US troops that burned up whole villages and shot unarmed peasants in the rice fields on Vietnam.
I've met quite a few VERY left people - who were veterans of the US military - and fully believed that US military forces should be used for shoving "civilization" down people's throats.
I'm pretty sure the appropriate propoganda will be generated if there is ever a rebellion in the US - to get sufficient number of US troops to sign on to our new overlords and do what they say.
Anyone see the movie Lincoln ? Notice the propaganda on presidential power in that ?
The military sheds blood around the world for the very freedoms that the American rebels would be fighting for. Put one and one together.
You guys are retarded if you think cops and soldiers won't shoot Americans. How many cops resign after a wrong address no knock homeowner shoot? How many resign from the SWAT team? That's what I thought. Anybody that fights cops or soldiers in a revolution is doing it wrong. If such a thing happened you super fighters need to kill pols, selectmen, elected dog catchers and their families. Yeah the cops would be the enemy but engaging them is a losing battle. You don't even need guns, most of those guys are fat bastards, a brick or fire will do the trick.
.mil doesn't do asymmetric warfare well.
They only calmed Iraq down by bribing mullahs and other influential types with billions of dollars.
They can't subdue Afghanistan and there are no more than 10K ragtag "fighters" there. Imagine the devastation if these current batch of uneducated knuckle dragging ragheads were not only replaced with pissed American citizens who can not only fight, but know EXACTLY where the homes and families of the police and .mil are...game over

That whole thing played out in a few seconds when one troop panicked. If I remember right it was a long time before national guard were given ammo for riot control. Ammo was kept in the rear with higher echlon.

While those war crimes are terrible the troops weren't doing it to fellow Americans.

I don't know if you've ever served, but the real lefties in the military are rare. Most are moderate to right.

I thought it was going to be a multi-national UN force of smurfs that was supossed to disarm the U.S. civillian populus.
Hahaha, yeah just like we crushed the Vietnamese and Afghanis.
