All,

I bought a used Glock 17 and I haven't had it very long. I bought it at State Line a few weeks ago. I went shooting today, and when I got home to clean it, I noticed that the rear sight appears to be broken.

Is it worth bringing it up to State Line to look at it or have it fixed there? Is it easy enough that I can buy replacement sights and swap it out myself?

I like Glocks, but I hate their plastic sights. Unless you have their steel night sights you are better off replacing both the front and rear sights. Depending on what you want to use the gun for there are a few options. You should look at the Warren Tactical/Sevigny fixed sights, or the Dawson Precision sights (fixed or adjustable), or TruGlo sights. There are quite a few out there and they are all better than the stock Glock sights.
-Cuz.

Oops, regarding your original question, the stock plastic sights are easy to remove yourself, and replacement front sights normally come with a screw and are easy to install. I use a Glock sight tool to install rear sights and would recommend you try to borrow one or meet up with someone who has one to help you.

Welcome the world of Glock.

If you just have stock Glock sights, you can buy them on line and they install very easily.

Glock parts are so inexpensive that you should also order extra recoil springs and various other springs and small parts just to keep in your range bag. Otherwise, when you do need to order a small part you will spend more in shipping then the part costs.

Here are the 2 best places that I have dealt with for Glock Parts.

I have 2 tools that replace them

i have 2 tools that replace them very easy and clean not messing up the sites. they cost me 75 each one is for sloped sights and one is for strait. it was a nice investment. ive seen them banged on not what you want to do too 100 sights. what area do you live in? if you bring it to a smith they most likely going to tell you to let them keep it till they get around to it. waited 2 months to get 1911 sights done. if your in the area maybe i can hook em up for you.

http://www.ghostinc.com/ - recent, only ordered 1 item from them...

*just adding these sites to the mix. I have ordred from both w/o issues. I had a Glock 22 and currently have a Glock 23 for which I've never hesitated to order from any of these two sites. Shipping is fairly fast too :)

now, if your looking for new sights, may i suggest: http://fsguns.com/glocks.html

20 minutes, $100 bucks and your on your way.

i have them on my G23... no complaints. my G23 is my primary CCW so I went with these.

the best hard use sights out there are hilton yam's 10-8 sights. You can tap the rear in yourself and the front has a nut. the glock plastic are total junk.

Novak makes a nice sight for the Glock. You can tap the rear in easily and the tool to tighten the nut on the base of the front sight is only $10.

They're pretty easy to replace.

There's a "sight pusher" tool to remove/install the rear sights, and a special nut driver to replace the front sight screw. Some front sights come with the tool.

I do the rears myself using a small machinist's vise and a short piece of brass rod, and handle the fronts with a nut driver that I've modified to fit.

Thank you all very much for the offers to help! I do appreciate it, but I'd probably be interested in buying the tools and at least attempting to do the sights on my own. I try to be a do-it-yourselfer.

If I go that route, does anybody know of any online instructions or perhaps a youtube video where somebody actually knows what they are doing?
