Home range backstop.

I've had these railroad ties for 4 years, finally got them stacked, lagged and filled for my home backstop. Plenty of woods and swamp behind my house but there is a road and a couple houses so I'm playing it safe.

It needs finessing, targets will be in front of the sand pile, and hanging from cable attached to the tie ends, it was getting too muddy to continue today.

You ain't kidding. Last guys I went shooting with could not stay inside a 3' x 3' target frame. At 25 feet!

Having a home range is so nice - congrats.

Here is my little range just after it was built.

Distance to the berm from the bench is 25 yards.

I would have continued that wall 6 feet from the top of the berm, and added more dirt to it.

I made the mistake of downloading the Dept. of Energy’s Range_Design_Criteria.pdf before setting up my backyard range (why it’s from the Dep.t of Energy is beyond me). I thought it might give me some goodideas. One look at it and you can see it’s not “targeted”for a home range.

That is good stuff. Page 13 has good info.

The attachments have some nice ideas for a covered area.

The OP should look at page 13, make sure the backstop not covered by sand can stop whatever he will be shooting.

It wasn't really practical nor the best idea/location at the end of the bench.

It's been broke off for a while.

So I built two of these instead.

Would adding a bungee stretched over the notches fix most of that?
