The discussion about "New York reload" in another thread reminded me of what my friends call the "John Woo Special". That being that the protagonist ALWAYS has more guns in his coat, and neat movie physics like the 12 shot revolver, and the 5 shot double-barrell.

Another is this

They can always shoot locks off things in movies.

So what's yer favorite Hollywood gun trick?

If anyone saw "The Wedding Crashers" there is a part were they go pheasant hunting. The dude pumped his shotgun twice and no shells came out either time.

My favorite Hollywood gun trick is that the mere act of removing a semi-automatic handgun from a holster or pocket causes the gun to click like a revolver being cocked... [roll]

I like it when the Good Guy has to keep racking his slide to show that he's ready to shoot someone. Sometimes the idiot does it twice! Strangely enough, he doesn't eject a live round, either.

How about all the bad guys missing with their full autos then the good gut takes em all out with with 2 semi-pistols while rolling on the floor.

I like that they can hide behind a teak bar in some resturant, and they are shooting up the bar pretty good. But the good guy doesn't get hurt.

The he pops up without looking, fires off one round over the top of the bar, and three bad guys fall to the ground dead instantly.

And the all time favorite:

Good guy shoots bad guy in a fancy off-balance, one handed way and Bad guy on good solid firm footing gets blown back while good guy recovers his footing easily.

ood MythBuster episode with that one. Steel plate on dummy just gets knocked off the hook with a 50 BMG.

Another Myth-Buster Gun Myth, shooting a car with a gun will NOT make it explode.

John Woo is obviously from a country where civilian gun ownership is VERY small.

Same with Sam Mendes when watching "Road to Perdition"

The number of times Tom Hanks fans the hammer of his 1911 is just rediculos (espeshally in the context that it's a single action pistol). Also I've read that before Jeff Cooper came around, people carried 1911s without a round in the chamber, and you racked the slide durring the draw.

Another good one from Perdition, was when Jude Law shot at Hanks with a shotgun. The shot is blocked by an open lid to a steel strongbox. Granted a strongbox like that could probably withstand buckshot (I know an old cheese computer of mine did) but the lid doesn't slam shut!

I believe John Woo directed "face off" too. In one part Nick Cage must have changed magazines in his 1911 ten times. He was wearing a business suit. He must have had on the rambo bandoleer of magizines on.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in Last Action Hero made a point of that... his character was a movie hero who comes through the screen into the real world (with the help of a magic movie ticket) and discovers that even though he shoots at a NYC cab, it doesn't explode.

he also discovers that when you punch out a car's window, you bleed... :-)

Great movie.

I really loved that film!

Pluse Charls Dance as the villain! Wayyy cool, and funny.

Another neat "Hollywood Effect" I heard about on the Director's Commentary track of the 2004 Dawn of the Dead. Evedently the director is an avid shooter, and he had to fight tooth and nail to keep realistic guns in the movie. According to him they kept trying to push MP5s and Desert Eagles on the cast 8)

Arrrr

speaking of Myth Busters and guns- I am now safe in the knowledge that if somebody in front of me gets shot in the balls and then the bullet implants in my uterus I wil not get pregnant [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]
I love that show!

That's true...Condition 3 was the standard US Army manual of arms for carrying the 1911. "Cocked and Locked" wasn't trusted, perhaps with good reason given the lack of training.
Also standard for the Israeli Defense Forces (Israeli Draw.)
With a lot of practice and skill it can be done very quickly...but you're out of luck if you only have one useful hand. [wink]

I found it real interesting that .30-06 and .223 completely fragmented when the mythbusters shot it into geletin underwater.(tried anyway)

The only thing that even hit the gel was handgun rounds.

I've seen so many flicks where you see rifle bullets going what looks like 6 feet into the water trying to hit swimmers.

I always loved the shots when good guy is flying through the air and nails the bad guy...you know the one - where he dives out and in mid air shoots (number of shots depends on which movies you've seen this one in) and then does a wonderful roll and comes up on his feet?

[roll]

I love the shoot and scream.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

O, it can be done, but I'd never want to have to rely on it. (Even practicing doing it hurts.)
