I arrive at the dealer to buy a S&W 1911 9MM and I see a beautiful HK45. I did some Google-ing and read a few great reviews on it and it seems it is regarded as one of the top 3 non 1911 45's .The others were G21 and Beretta Storm 45.
I would like a 45 some day and am wondering if the HK 45 is a very desirable one by my fellow NES members.
Opinions and advice would be great. I'm sure the price plays a factor in your replies so lets say around $700 for the one I saw.

Here is mine.

It's my home defense gun, at least til Antifa makes me break out the AR. Soft shooting and feels great in the hand.

I suppose trying to carry it would be like walking around with an aardvark in your pants.

HK45 has been on my short list for a while but I’m torn between that and the usp45.

I have a USP45 and USP45c, and have gone back and forth with trading them up for the newer versions for a while now, as I hear the ergonomics are the primary difference. I just have a tough time getting rid of the USPs, they both have the SS slides.

Can't speak to the price but for some reason I gravitate towards the HK stuff. I wouldn't call myself a fanatic, but they always come to the top of the list for me.

One thing to keep in mind if you're used to a button magazine release is that the HK will use a paddle style release, some people love it and some people hate it.

Never really got into the USP series until I picked up a USP 45 Tactical, it's one of my favorite guns these days.
Absolute tack driver for me. Of course it's even better with a Rugged Obsidian on the end of it.

I carry mine with an alien gear inside the pants all the time. I dont find it uncomfortable at all.

I️ think that depends on your body. I️ concealed a USP .40 full size for a year or two with no issues.

I have an older USP and like it a lot. The kids all have .45 and .40 compacts for carry and like them just fine. I dig the full size but then I don't hump it around like I did the 1911 over seas. I think I paid $550 with five magazines.

Don't sell the XD .45 short either.

It's the gun JMB would have created if he still was alive. It's got very similar geometry to the 1911.

This

You can easily go back and forth between H&K's, Springfields, 1911's.......glock has its own special geometry

Not sure if serious. It's like HK has their own special geometry. Particularly in the newer guns. I didn't have much trouble with the USP... but the newer ones? forget it. I can shoot a Glock and 1911s and almost have the same NPOA. If I pick up a P2000, a P30, HK45, my NPOA is pointing the thing at the f**king ground. It took me years to figure that out, too. Not to mention the bore axis between something like a 1911 or a BHP vs an HK45 = two different planets. The HK45 is like a mechanical bull compared to either of those things, based off bore axis alone. (although it is pretty controllable and comfortable to shoot). Every gun HK ever made outside of some of the old ones like the P7M8/13 etc, have laughably high bore axis. That isn't always a dealbreaker though, but it clearly is a different geometry.

Glocks I point slightly high but if I force my hands out to where they're supposed to be, the sights drop right into place. With HK45 etc I unnaturally have to roll my wrists back and heel the stupid thing to bring the sights up.. Except for my P7M8, that thing was dead on.

If I pick up my Dan Wesson Specialist (1911) the sights are dead on. my HK45 was on its own little planet, pointing at the dirt every time I brought the pistol up.

For others reading, at first this is a hard concept to figure out. Grip the gun with a proper grip, rest muzzle on the bench, close your eyes and bring it up to where you think/feel eye level is, then open your eyes and see how far off the sights are. That gives you a rough idea of what your NPOA is.

I think it depends on the geometry and size of ones hands more than anything else. There are a lot of people who simply cannot hold Glocks properly without the gun either beating them up, or they have issues maintaining NPOA with them. That's why we have lots of alternatives on the market that might work better. Like an HK, or an XD, etc. Or for people who enjoy masochism, the S&W
M&P.

The HK is a competent handgun when it comes to accuracy and reliability though, can't fault it there. Those guns are built like
brick shithouses. My NPOA/boar axis/SCHOOL BUS issues aside, if someone asked me "What brand has the absolute highest out of box reliability?" I'd be like "HK, hands down, 7 days a week and twice on sunday". As someone who owned over 26 handguns at one time, in a previous life, out of the "fleet" the HKs had the least problems and least amount of required replacement parts vs rounds fired, with old school Sigs being right next to them.

Full size USP/HK 45 are not difficult to conceal at all with the right IWB

Not difficult to conceal doesn't mean its practical, though, vs other choices. As someone who has owned the entire USP series (outside of the expert) every one of them is a f**king school bus. They're not that hard to carry on the grand scheme of things (particularly in winter) if you dress around the gun, but "worst in class" comes to mind. The only thing that could be worse is being forced to carry anything in a fobus paddle holster, lol. Or a deagle or something stupid like that.

I carried a USP .45 Compact for a year or two and while it was a decent gun, the size efficiency (or lack thereof) was laughable. My G30 Gen4 is a fat gun and it's still smaller than that, and it carries like 3 more rounds of ammo.

HK has a lot of things going for them but size efficiency, even with the newer models, is not one of them. Even Springfield is 3 steps ahead of them in that
department.

I know this is old, but any recommendations for a HK45 IWB?

I liked my Vedder IWB.

And damn do I miss my 45C. I wish I hadn’t traded it away. I love the gun I got in return, but I practiced so much with the 45C it was an extension of my arm. I need to get another one in due time.
