Hipoint 995M carbine??

I have one in my safe that belongs to my brother-in-law...It's perhaps among the biggest POS I have ever seen...I mean ever. It's the Jennings .25 of 9mm carbines...Bite the bullet and get an UZi...It's just superb and chicks will dig you much more...[kiss]

The only problem is an Uzi is like $1500.00 and a Hi-Point is like $150.00 pretty big spendy difference.

I keep thinking I need an Uzi - Four Seasons had one on the wall last week when I picked up a PPS. I was very tempted but I was good and held to my resolution to only buy one gun that day.

So here is a question for the OP: why do you want a Hi-Point? It is MA legal by the way, I have seen them around in a few different shops. They don't show up very often though.

If you were looking for an inexpensive 9mm carbine you might want to think about going a little bit upscale and check out a Kel-Tec. From everything I have read about the Hi-Point they function ok and can be reliable - they really do look way too cheap to my eyes though.

HigH Point Carbine: $150.00 and a lifetime of headaches...

IMI Uzi Carbine: $1500.00 and a lifetime of giddiness...

If the OP eats salad and Ramen Pride for 10-weeks, saves $150.00 per week for 10 weeks, he'll have an Uzi and girls coming out of the woodwork...[smile]

They are legal. They are cheap and butt ugly.

They are also accurate, guaranteed for life, and fun. I have one and it is my wife's favorite. It's a great home defense gun. If you run out of bullets, you won't think twice about using it as a club.[smile] You won't fondle it and admire the fine craftmanship or quality materials but, you will shoot it and hit what you aim at. You'll also have a lot of fun.

Is $1400-$1500 a decent price for an IMI Uzi? I have seen them in this range at a couple of different shops in the region - and searching thru Gunbroker they mostly seem to go in this range too.

Please stop trying to convice me to buy an Uzi - please stop. Obama needs all my money and if I actually buy an Uzi those Uzi mags I already bought will start getting all scratched up.

"Decent" is a relative term when it comes to Uzi pricing...I paid $475.00 for one NIB in 1988...I sold it foolishly in 1994 and made up for my tragic error buy purchasing another one brand spanking NIB, (I mean gleaming new) at Collectors 2 years ago for $1250.00...It was expensive, but absolutely, positively, worth every single red cent...

I spoke to God a few minutes ago and he said you should buy it immediately...

I'm not sure what kinda mags the Hi point takes, but one nice thing about the Kel Tecs is that they usually come in a format that will take at least Glock or Beretta normal cap mags... so you're not just stuck with 10 rounds or less.

One thing I didn't like about the Sub 2000 is that the front sight on the things is ultra crappy, its this fat-ass plastic blade.

If they were talking about the full autos, they'd be saying $15000, not $1500.

15K for a registered uzi? Not sure what they are now, but not all that long ago you could buy one for about half of that. They were (and maybe still are?) one of the
few halfway decent deals left for C3 collectors.

Dude I have one and its a beast its ugly as shit but shoots great, and is accurate as hell. I have never had any problems with it and its also the only gun that me wife likes to shoot.

Full autos have been going for @6k last time I checked.
definitely a nice way to go...

hmm.. odd you say that. My GF hates long guns. But absolutely loves to shoot the Uzi...
She insists on pulling the but stock off..and then she sprays the hill with lead like something out of a 70s porn movie.

The Kel-Tec Sub 2000 is pretty inexpensive, around $300-$400 if you can find one. It is really cute, light, it folds up, and it can take Glock, Beretta, or other easily available high cap mags.

If you're looking for a cheap 9mm carbine, you should definitely take a look at the Kel Tec.

I looked for an Uzi a few months ago but found them to be prohibitively expensive. I just couldn't justify 1500'ish. I also looked at the highpoint and Sub2000. Neither looked that great...to me.

I settled for a Beretta Storm (I was leaning that way anyway) but I was glad I made the choice. Even as plastic guns so, it's nearly all plastic. However, it doesn't feel cheap. In fact, I really like it. It's light, ergonomic, and 92fs mags are plentiful. It may not have the super-evilness of an Uzi, but it does have a futuristic thing going on.

I have the 40 S&W version of the Hi point:
Butt ugly, check.
Willingness to use it as a war club, check.
finicky about certain ammo, check.
I will say that first time shooters love it, and it is very accurate. I've put over 3000 rounds through mine. It has a lifetime warranty, no matter if you are the first, second, or third owner (and so on). The two main problems you will have with a Hi point.
1) you'll want to up grade (kinda like buying a sportster then wanting a big bike [smile])
2)dealing with brand snobs
other than that if you can handle the crap you'll get from owning one (like a pink shirt) have fun. purchasing a fire arm isn't a popularity contest. Just think of it as a stepping stool.

I have a 9mm and .40 Hi-Point handguns, and I love them. A little heavy, yes, pretty, no, but I like the all black business look. My dad's Sargent gave my crap the first time I took the .40 to the range, called it a nice door weight that he wouldn't depend his life on, until he shot it, now he is a believer. Dead accurate, and after the 100 round break in, they have no problem firing whatever I put in it. The plan is to own one of each Hi-Point handgun and carbine, with the lifetime warranty, I just cannot go wrong.
