I’m having a hard time figuring out how to remove the fore end and barrel assembly from a friends deceased grandfathers 1927 Lefever single barrel. I have everything disassembled down to the barrel assembly and just can’t get the forend off. I’ve tried opening the action and lifting off the forend but it won’t budge and I don’t want to brake it.

I have an H&R 16ga and Stevens 12ga single shot, both after 1900 and prior to 1930. On both, the forend snaps off the barrel. Steven's has a spring and the H&R has a detent. The Steven's was real hard. Unsure if the Lefever does that but looking at it, there isn't a screw. Good luck

With the rust noted on the barerel, that surrounds the forend, the mechanics of removal may be siezed. If you can't find anything on YouTube or Google for how to disasseble, try finding parts and that may assist in how it comes apart. Good luck.

Unable to tell by your pic but yours looks like a hammerless. This advertisement for a hammerless indicates it is a take down with a snap forend.

I tried eBay for some parts but not much came up. Neumrich has a surprise number of parts but nothing associated with the barrel or forend

went back at it this morning and sprayed some on blaster under the barrel in the area the latch should be. I’m pulling on it harder than I feel comfortable and it won’t budge.

Give it another shot of the PB and let it sit. I have owned several of "Uncle Dan's" guns and that is the way they come apart.

My Lefever 26" barreled double trigger 12 Ga. is over 100 years old and I still break clays with it all the time.

Good luck.

finally got the forearm off. The PB never touched the latch area. The plunger spring area was solid with rust and would not release. The forearm did split but is at least one piece. I will reinforce it with some acraglass and steel rods. Started removing the rust by steaming it and converting it back into blue. It won’t be perfect but far better than it was.

Nice work. Not much you could have done different other than some serious soaking which may have caused other issues with that old wood.
