Help with a bolt on a savage

Maybe someone here can help me with a simple thing. Bear with me I am not up to speed on terms and names, I have my dad's Savage model 10 bolt action rifle I was cleaning and took the bolt out, while in my hand this little knob near the rear slid up and forward of the back of the bolt and now I don't know how to get it back where it was so that I can slide the whole thing forward back into the gun. There has to be some trick to it that I can't see, and I searched youtube and the pdf manual.
