So my company has put out a poll asking for us to vote on which new paid holiday the company will have off to replace one of our current holidays. I want Veteran’s Day to win. Majority vote wins. Help a brother out and flood the poll with Vets Day votes please. Voting ends 9/13/2024

Edit:
Just to clarify, I’m also a veteran myself for anyone who was curious

Edit 2:
Update: So the company figured out there was an issue with people voting multiple times, and they sent an updated link that only lets you vote once. Still doesn’t stop people from outside the company from voting though as far as I can tell? So if you can, please vote again

This seems like something designed specifically for employees of your company?
How big is your company and is it blue collar, white collar etc?

You’re going to have 200 people vote for Veterans Day for you’re company of 20 people.
tbh I doubt 200 people are gonna end up voting in this poll anyway, but my company is big enough to where these votes aren’t going to be suspicious

My employees gladly trade it for the day after Thanksgiving.
I am happy they do. And I am a Veteran.

But I voted for Veterans day for you, because they didn't give me the option of November 10th, the birthday of our beloved Marine Corps.
If I could I would take both Vets Day and MC Birthday, but alas, only 1 can win. Appreciate the support from one vet to another

Dude, you don't get the day after Thanks Giving or December 24?

Find a new job, that company s*cks a**.

I would want the 24th or Black Friday off (make it a 4 day weekend) and I wouldn't show up to work on Veterans day - do you even get sick days?

In before the Boomer noises "work hard 24/7. I worked 27hrs per day, ..."

I can’t remember the exact year, (2015?) but Gov Weld passed a law giving us the day off with pay if you are a veteran. I worked for a defense contractor, but I thought it applied to all MA businesses if you were a veteran.

He also gave us lifetime RMV registrations. That didn't last very long.

@Joeldiaz, happy to help for no other reason than you're a member here. Some NES members I don't even know have helped me, and I've done the same for you.

Was hoping it would give a running total of where the voting stands, but I didn't see one.

This. Can't imagine your company will take it well, to find out that an internal vote was manipulated by ineligible people outside the company.

I feel like this reminds me of something, but just can't quite put my finger on it. 🤣

The only people that should have Veterans Day off are Veterans. That is their day.

I concur. Only Christians should have Christmas off (and Good Friday - although that's less of a holiday these days). Only immigrants can have Thanksgiving off. Only the fallen can have Memorial Day off. Those born between 1700 and 1775 can have Independence Day off. Only Italians (and true Spaniards, by association with Queen Whatshername) can have Columbus Day off.

Personally - I always take it. I tend not to take too many vacations at all. MAybe a week once every other year. Owning your own business comes with benefits and disadvantages. So I take Veterans Day, Columbus Day. . . . hmmm, that may be teh only non-sanctioned holidays out there. Wait. Patriots Day. Because F the British!

I end up with 12 or so "holidays" a year. NYD, MLK, Pres, Pats, GoodFri, Mem, JTeef, 7/4, Labor, Colum, Vets, Tday, Tday+1, Xmas. Ooh, that's 14. Woot!

There was a time when we all got Veterans Day off. I believe they gave it up when we added MLK day. Because "we can't take MORE days off a year. It would grind the country to a halt!" Of course, 2 years ago, they add Joonteemf. But didn't take MLK day (or Memorial, or Thanksgiving) away. Hmmmm. I guess, 45 years later, it's OK for us to have a MF day off.

I think this country would be AOK with another 3-4 sanctioned national holidays. Bring back Veterans Day and Columbus Day. Add Patriots Day for all. And then maybe a 2-day bender for StarWarsDay and Cinco-de-Mayo. ROFL!!!

EDIT - holdup. You don't get paid for MLK or President's Day off??? What sort of commie organization is Microship becoming???? YOU DON'T GET PRESIDENTS DAY OFF????? (I remember - it may have been state, not federal, but getting Washington's B-day and Lincoln's B-day off.)
