Hearing protection

How do these plugs work with regards to carrying on a conversation with your shooting buddies? At up to -40db it seems yelling would be the only way. I'm using electronic muffs that are great for reducing gun shot noise and they allow normal conversations but are bulky and damn hot in the summer.

Do you have the contact info for the place at Mass Eye and Ear you had them done at? If yours work well at the range I think thats the route I would like to go.

Went to the indoor range and shot 9mm and the AR while there. They worked well and had no issues. For me it was worth it.

Thank you for the update. I am going to call them this week and set up an appointment.

Any recommendation for concert earplugs? Would they be the same as gun range rear plugs?
No they aren't.

Plugs for shooting are designed to attenuate all noise significantly.

Plugs for music are designed to attenuate music but keep the purity of sound.
These are what we own and my Wife uses them frequently. https://www.etymotic.com/consumer/hearing-protection/er20.html

and here are the ones professional musicians frequently use:
