Any suggestions on the best rated ear muffs I can get without doing a lot of trial and error. I have the Howard Leight Impact sport and the band type plugs and neither works well for me. I shoot indoors and out. Thanks for any suggestions.

I use electronic earmuffs that are flat to the head so I can get close to the rifle without bumping the ear. I use dillion because they were the first I could find many years ago and they are still great after years of heavy use. There may be some better today, I haven't tried any.

Simply look for their NRR rating rating (noise reduction rating). The number represents dB (deciBells) so a difference in 3dB is a 2X change in sound loudness.

Good ear muffs have a NRR rating above 26. Really good ones have a NRR of 30.

Hearing is something I (no longer) take chances with. I wear ear plugs (NRR=30) PLUS ear muffs with mic and speakers. I turn the volume up on the ear muffs and I can hear conversation and range commands, but I'm totally deaf to the guns.
