I was watching HBO last night, and I saw a preview for a new documentary they're going to be airing called "Gun Fight". It claims to tackle the issue of gun control objectively with arguments from both sides, but I'm not too sure. I just did a search for it and found out the director has won an Oscar or 2 for "Pro-Union Documentaries".

Either way, this airs Wednesday April 13th at 9:30 EST, so I'll check it out and pray my head doesn't explode.

I did a search on this but couldn't find anything, but I apologize if it's a dupe.

I will guarantee your head will explode.... no way this comes off as objective. anyone that claims to take arguments from both sides has a bias. Look at Penn and Teller's show B.S. they show both sides and then make the other side look stupid. Please name me a documentary that doesn't have a bias and I would love to watch it.

At least in the case of Penn & Teller, they never claimed to not have their own opinion. They interview both sides, and then comment on what they think is right and what they think is BS.

But yeah, you're probably right. There's a good chance I don't make it through the whole documentary.

I haven't seen all of their episodes, just the gun control one, but frankly, in a lot of cases, the other side looks stupid because they actually ARE stupid. With gun control you can't make it look good without polishing a lot of turds or lying.

If they made the show to be entertaining, there's going to have to be some narrative, and it almost certainly won't be unbiased.

Fortunately, we can rely on the Hostile Media Effect to indicate that the Anti's will probably find it just as biased as we do, and in the opposite direction.

Penn and Teller try to stay on issues where there is a reasonably clear divide between Ignorant a**h***s and Sane Rational People, for just that reason.

It depends on how bad it is.

For example with libtard-slob moore's Bowling, how many antis would say that the message from BFC is pro gun?

Also bear in mind that these types of shows don't really have an effect in the realm of "us" and "them". EG- pro vs anti gun forces... on the whole, are not going to change their opinions as a result of this sort of media. The "weeble wobbles" though- the people that didn't otherwise care one way or the other, their opinion might be shifted.

Barbara Kopple is an excellent documentary filmmaker. If you haven't seen her previous doc films, then let's reserve judgements until you've seen it. And her previous films took place in Kentucky, where there certainly wasn't any anti-gun folks.

The TV Guide description is:

"A look at gun violence in the US chronicles the efforts of advocates for stricter gun regulations".

Sounds like it's a pro gun control propaganda film.

Very brief trailer here.

Synopsis and comments (well, one, right now) here.

As far as the trailer goes, The guys who were pro 2a werent rednecks wearing overalls and rasslin gators...so there's hope for it to be somewhat unbiased...although I'll believe it when I watch it.

A few selected quotes from the NPR interview (Kopple is the director):

'HANSEN: Colin Goddard was shot four times at Virginia Tech, and he is a thread that runs through the entire documentary. Did he find you or did you find him?

Ms. KOPPLE: I guess we all found each other through the Brady organization. And for me, Colin Goddard is truly a hero. He's a survivor; he's a fighter; he's a believer. And he has taken his personal tragedy of being shot four times in French class, on a small college campus, and turned it into a driving force for change. I think that if all of us can do what Colin is doing, we would certainly have some changes in this country. He's been an inspiration.'

and

'HANSEN: Were there surprising moments when you were working on the documentary? Just give us an example of something that surprised you.

Ms. KOPPLE: I don't think that you would call them surprising moments. There were terrifying moments - for instance, the house in Philly, and seeing how people live by their guns. They have a gun in every single room: the bathroom, the kitchen, under the couch.'

[Emphasis added]

The problem is the notion that there are "two sides" and that both deserve consideration. Nobody starting with that premise can be expected to say anything smart about gun control. Just as an example, take some of the the socialist/collectivist arguments offered by gun control advocates. Almost anyone trying to be "fair" will consider the debate to be about the validity of claims and their outcomes (Does gun control result in less crime? Why does anyone need a magazine holding more than 10 rounds? Let's discuss!). The correct response is not to debate this nonsense at all, but rather to deny the underlying premise that government force should be used to limit or deny individual property rights and natural rights to life and its defense.

I heard that NPR interview over the weekend.. My head was exploding then.. it will explode for sure when I watch it.

' HBO: All the evidence seems to suggest that more guns only make us more violent , yet many people in this country believe that guns make us safer. What do you think this says about us as a society? '

All the evidence on the Brady sight? all of the evidence? HBO needs to do a tad more research.

HBO makes TV better than Hollywood makes Mega million dollar films. I watch most of their Big Name shows.
But I know for sure they are far Left editorially speaking. Bill Maher is on the payroll , for chrissake.

Not watching another propaganda film dressed up as a documentary. Maybe that's what all documentaries are after all. Al Gore & Michael Moore are called Documentarians. Even theough they are lying Dbag partisans
