Has anyone else read this incredible story?

Quite a tribute to his daughter. He is right in many respects...our society needs "something" (religion or whatever it takes) that they can use to bolster their self-esteem, pride, respect, and compassion to fellow man. You are still going to have some zombies out there, but maybe they can be kept to a minimum. Something has to change...we are currently headed in the wrong direction.

Criminals have rights, ya know?

NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! relinquish your personal safety to someone else. PERIOD! NO ONE is responsible for you other than YOU! Give that up at your own risk.

Sadly, this includes .gov and cops, as decreed by SCOTUS. Yet, when actual defense is required, these are the same folks who act like an old peacock huffing and puffing their feathers because they believe you should've waited for them to be..............first responders to your murder/rape/whatever. [rolleyes]

These are the same peacocks who argue against Castle Doctrines, No Duty to Retreat, Constitutional Carry. Because for some f'ed up, deranged mentality, they think by doing so it will open up the Wild West. .gov and cops are nothing more than badged versions of the Brady Bunch. Oh, there's a few on here that are pro-2A, and are bona-fide in that regard. But the majority, no, they (and some of you on this forum) would rather be patted on the back by responding to a body rather than allow self-defense.

Mass doesn't have a castle doctrine....we have affirmative defense, which is only applicable in your home....barely, allowing DAs to punish you for your right to live, instead of letting the rapist/murderer have their way. Don't defend another person, either. It's better to let them take a round to the head, than to stop the bad guy, according to these same peacocks.

You're no longer suitable because you defended an innocent life and stopped something bad from happening to them.

I don't use slugs. 3" shells of 00 shot, I'm bound to hit an attery or a vital organ... The rest is 100%, though

Interesting as how I don't remember any press given to his testimony at the time of the congressional hearings. I guess it's another uncomfortable truth for many of the congress critters (esp the Mass Delegation) and the Brady Bunch.

his statement is 100% accurate, to often do we as a society look to blame everything and everyone other than those responsible. If its a school shooting, its not the fault of the gunman he was a good kid after all its, guns, bullies, Marilyn Manson's fault. We blamed the govt, the military, the british, etc for Pearl Harbor. 9/11 everyone attacked Bush because he sat there for 7 minutes.

Instead of blaming those responsible for some reason we find the need to blame everything and everyone else. No one political party is to blame since both do it. I dont know if its simply because people are insecure or what.

I agree with the stuff about laws, obviously, but this religious bullshit is way over the top.

"What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence."

Yea, because religion has been such a force for peace and tolerance in the last couple of decades.

"God hates fags" - Westboro Baptist Church

"I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it." - Bush

"In our religion, there is a special place in the hereafter for those who participate in jihad."
Osama bin Laden

Not that ANY of these religions actually endorse what these radical militant psychopaths actually claim it does, but religion has always been used as a way to justify people's propensity for violence, intolerance, and hatred. The answer to the violence in this country is definitely not, "lets all turn to God" because then everyone starts to worry about WHICH God they should force everyone to turn to, HOW they should turn to him, etc. It's happened over and over and over again throughout history and it is the reason the first amendment reads as it does.

Where people should turn is to each other. Try to understand and accept who other people are, where they are coming from, and respect their right to live their life as they see fit. Respect their right to worship a God or NOT worship a god as they see fit. Respect that not everyone is going to conform to their expectations and get comfortable with that. Trying to interpret the day to day mandates of a book written 2000 years ago or more is not the way to tolerance. Focusing on what is here in front of you, that there are other people around who deserve to be treated as such....that's how you create tolerance.

ya I am curious to see if more people have been killed in the name of religion than any other reason. Jihad, Spanish Inquisition, witch trials, the Crusades, etc

Belief in god is not the same as religious bullshit.

If you look at what has happened to this country - there have been people and groups working to eliminate "God" and "morality" and their perception of "religion" from the moral foundation of this country.

They try to replace this with humanism - and socialism - and communism - as a belief system. What all of those belief systems do is basically try to take away all moral foundations - as a methodology to make people into incoherent slaves. It just so turns out that people with no moral foundation - go nuts and start shooting each other - because it's all relative. Moral relativism that is.

"Freedom of religion" not " freedom from religion" get it right. I'm Agnostic. I have no religion. I still believe in a higher power. Maybe because I feel vulnerable as a human. I know I am going to die. I hope there is something greater than me but I have no guarantee.

People believe or they don't. Spewing anti religious crap will just get you in the middle of a fire fight. Let the believers believe and let the skeptics throw their poo.

What I don't understand is why the anti's are so quick to throw poo while the believers rarely throw poo.

The believers don't need to "throw poo", they're fighting from a position of power, to retain power.

I'm cool with private religion, not so cool with using tax dollars to support religion (or giving tax exemptions, especially property tax), even less cool with the government actually or tacitly endorsing a set of religious beliefs, christian or otherwise.

I agree completely.

Your understanding of the term "moral relativism" is poor, as is your understanding of philosophy and, more generally, belief systems.

All morals are relativistic. Especially religiously based morals.

You don't need to be religious to have a moral center and a set of principles to live by. Most often (not always) people use religion as a way to excuse their bad behavior and lack of ethics. Some of the most moral people I know have no religious basis for their beliefs, and some of the absolute biggest scumbags the world has ever seen have not only been religious, but used religion as a basis and justification for their immorality.

Judging how moral or not a person is by their religion (or lack thereof) is a great way to make really shitty judgements about people.
