Handgun Hunters: Scope or Red Dot

From a different post I'm pulling the trigger on buying a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 mag w/ a 7.5" bbl. I'm going to set it up as a hunter, but while doing some research I'm seeing a number of hunters moving to red dots instead of scopes.

So what is your choice and why? Also, if you run a scope, are you using just a crosshair recticle or something else?

Paper to start and get a feel for it and then deer down the road. Maybe a hog hunt someday.

As I posted in your other thread, I switched my SRH to a red dot because i couldn't acquire the scope w/o bending my elbows.

I tried a scope with a lighted triangle on a post. Forget who made it but I loved that thing. Sounds like a nice fun gun.

Try it out first. I'm not sure what your age is, but my eyes are not young anymore. I have 2x handgun scope on my .44 mag Ruger as a dot wouldn't to it out to 75 yards. At 25 yards I'd use a dot.
