H&R Handy rifle superlight compact

Thinking about getting this rifle in 243 cal with spare 12ga 20 in barrel, modifying it a bit... Any experience with these guns? I shot one recently in 300Blackout AAC, loved the gun but was unimpressed with cartridge. I think 243 is a better way to go...

I got my dad the ultra varmiter in 25-06 and I think it is a great gun. Simple, great to shoot.

I really admired what H&R did for AAC- shorty little handy thing. And I want iron sights too. so probably will lop off 3-4 inches of the rifle barrel, move front sight and add comp. Something similar to 12 ga barrel... Still not sure 223 or 243. I have guns in both 223 and 308. Seems 243 is a good in-between. But maybe 223 though...
