It never ends... [rolleyes] [angry]

Congressman Rush introduces gun legislation named after Blair Holt, the Julian High School hero

Chicago, IL. ---- U.S. Rep. Rush was joined by Ronald Holt, the father of Blair Holt, Rufus Williams, president of the Chicago Board of Education, law enforcement officials and community activists to introduce Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2007-HR 2666 (Blair’s Bill) aimed at curbing senseless violence by implementing a uniform system for purchasers of certain firearms.
The group gathered at the location where Holt’s son Blair, was elevated from being an honor student attending Julian High School to a hero when he used his body to shield a ultimately save a female friend.

“The proliferation of guns in our community impacts us all. My son lost his life back in 1999 due to senseless gun violence and my nephew sits in jail today, convicted of fatally shooting someone. Like all of you, I am sick and tired of scenes like this being replayed over and over again in our neighborhoods," said Rep. Rush, chairman of the Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection.
"Since the beginning of this school year alone, over 31 children have lost their life by violence, and the great majority were killed with guns. In response to these tragedies, I am introducing a bill in Congress that would regulate gun trafficking and possession in this country. HR 2666, Blair’s Bill, will implement a nationwide program of licensing all individuals who possess firearms and require all guns to be registered in a national gun registry," he added.
According to police, Michael Pace boarded an eastbound 103rd Street CTA bus at 103rd and Halsted about 3:20 p.m. on May 10 and started shooting, striking two males and three females, all of whom were students at Julian. Kevin Jones is accused of giving Pace the gun, knowing he wanted to use it to try to kill someone he had argued with. Julian High School student Blair Holt used his body to shield and ultimately save a female friend.
The purpose of the Bill is:
(1) to protect the public against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of qualifying firearms to criminals and youth;
(2) to ensure that owners of qualifying firearms are knowledgeable in the safe use, handling, and storage of those firearms;
(3) to restrict the availability of qualifying firearms to criminals, youth, and other persons prohibited by Federal law from receiving firearms; and
(4) to facilitate the tracing of qualifying firearms used in crime by Federal and State law enforcement agencies.

In the current climate it stands a very low chance of being passed.

I would also like to know how registering sales is going to have any effect on (1) to protect the public against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of qualifying firearms to criminals and youth; -- Something which is CURRENTLY ILLEGAL anyway.

Oh..and maybe, just maybe Mr. Rush the problem is the gang-banger constituents in your district of Illinois. Here's an idea...FIX THE GODDAMN problem in your society of kids joining gangs, showing zero respect to others around them, having an awfull..or zero education and all the other problems??? Don't you think that that might solve a few more problems? [crying][rolleyes]

It's maddening (laughable really), that the gun-grabbing ass would even propose this kind of nonsense.

The POS has to know it won't go anywhere, so it's obviously meant to appease his constituents and give the appearance that he's doing something.

But... that would be 'racist'! Too many young black males are already incarcerated. [thinking]

Exactly. Same BS.

This type of legislation is introduced in every session. The legislators filing these sorts of things know they won't go anywhere. But doing so gives them the ability to hold a press conference, issue a press release, and brag about how they introduced "the toughest gun control legislation" blah, blah, blah.

Don't get your panties in a twist over it. It isn't going anywhere.

My solution for this problem (i.e., legislators submitting or backing stupid and blatantly unconstitutional bills, not random acts of violence) is to treat politicians as the organized crime group they actually are. The best model for our purposes would be the Yakuza. Whenever any legislator introduces, co-authors or votes for any piece of legislation that's later determined to be unconstitutional, they get to apologize to their oyabun (that's you and me) in the traditional manner of yubitsume, cutting of the last digit of a finger, starting with the pinkie for the first offense, then working their way up for subsequent ones. Even if it didn't solve the problem, it would at least provide some entertainment, while identifying serial offenders.

There has to be a way to stop people from introducing a bill unless they can provide some sort of logical hypothesis as to how the hell it would help matters at all.

Yes, any bill that violates the Constitution can never be submitted and any prior bills that violate the Constitution are immediatly repealed. They must follow the proper ammendment and constitutional guidelines if anything needs to be changed and those refusing will be immediately removed from office.

Don't forget any one who tries to enact, draft, bring up any law that violates the Constitution should also be charged, convicted, and executed for treason.

These are things that I really feel is necessary.
