$1000 Because he was going to buy the tools needed to do it.I’d recommend Dave Santurri too. Had a local FFL ask a gunsmith they knew to do a re-barrel on my latest Garand. Nice criterion .308 barrel to replace the 30-06 barrel (.308 is a little cheaper and easier to find than 30-06), the gunsmith comes back with a $1000.00 estimate! Then questions why I want it re-barreled. I bring that rifle and barrel to Dave and it’s $325 dollars and we talked about Garands and 1911’s. Great guy and great shop.
I've used Dave Santurri and Greg Derr and been happy with both. I know nothing about them but isn't Cape Gun Works near you?

Im guessing codshooter find a smith or just did it himselfI want to have the buffer tube and stock swapped out on my 21st tech G3 the buffer tube is locked on and the stock has been pinned and I’d like to swap them
Greg Dur is going to have to be amazingly slow. I would think to take on a buffer Tube change.Gallery — Derr Precision

I get the tool part side but when i installed boilers i never put the cost of a tool on the customer because i knew that tool would bring me more money later to do other jobs. An 03-A3 does sound nice in .308 and i believe criterion does make a barrel for them or I've seen barrels on fulton armory for that.$1000 Because he was going to buy the tools needed to do it.
Went through that myself but at least the guy told me I was paying for the finish reamer he needed to do the job.
Finish reamer was $200 + the $300 to do the work
So I said no thanks and bought the tools and did it myself.
I did not want to pay for another reamer for my 308 M1 build so I paid to have that done by local M1 guru that I met after I did my other rifles.
Im thinking of a 1903a3 in 308
The first thing I think of when we get an unusual high quote is one. There’s something out to someone else and they’re trying to make just as much as the first guy. Two they’re buying the tools they need to do the job. Or three they’re just blatantly ripping you offI get the tool part side but when i installed boilers i never put the cost of a tool on the customer because i knew that tool would bring me more money later to do other jobs.
