Gunsmith Recommendations

I’d recommend Dave Santurri too. Had a local FFL ask a gunsmith they knew to do a re-barrel on my latest Garand. Nice criterion .308 barrel to replace the 30-06 barrel (.308 is a little cheaper and easier to find than 30-06), the gunsmith comes back with a $1000.00 estimate! Then questions why I want it re-barreled. I bring that rifle and barrel to Dave and it’s $325 dollars and we talked about Garands and 1911’s. Great guy and great shop.

$1000 Because he was going to buy the tools needed to do it.
Went through that myself but at least the guy told me I was paying for the finish reamer he needed to do the job.
Finish reamer was $200 + the $300 to do the work
So I said no thanks and bought the tools and did it myself.
I did not want to pay for another reamer for my 308 M1 build so I paid to have that done by local M1 guru that I met after I did my other rifles.
Im thinking of a 1903a3 in 308

Hey everyone looking looking for some gunsmith recommendations on the on the South Shore thank you
Im
I want to have the buffer tube and stock swapped out on my 21st tech G3 the buffer tube is locked on and the stock has been pinned and I’d like to swap them
Im guessing codshooter find a smith or just did it himself
The staked castle nut unless completely gorilla’ed with a 20lb lead hammer did it should break free easy and a little working and removing any metal chips should come off easy
If the stock is blind hole pinned its a bit “harder” to un pin it for repairs. Its not beyond the skill set of some who can load a gun

I get the Cant be bothered to do it myself mind set …..

I get the tool part side but when i installed boilers i never put the cost of a tool on the customer because i knew that tool would bring me more money later to do other jobs. An 03-A3 does sound nice in .308 and i believe criterion does make a barrel for them or I've seen barrels on fulton armory for that.

The first thing I think of when we get an unusual high quote is one. There’s something out to someone else and they’re trying to make just as much as the first guy. Two they’re buying the tools they need to do the job. Or three they’re just blatantly ripping you off

At least the Smith who wanted to charge me for the Rema was upfront about it. I would’ve much rather have him told me that he didn’t have the finish Rema and I would have to buy it and he would give it to me when done I might’ve went for the job at that point
Have to buying the tools I needed to re-barrel my first grand. Set aside the cost of Tools two to $300 is not a bad price for a re-barrel if they’re a legit business.

I’ve been able to do 1030 at six barrel installs on Graz 1903 since I bought the tools. I only do it on my own rifles are really close friends cause I’m not a legit business and I haven’t done one in years.

As far as barrels and different calipers Loather/walther offers garand in 4 to 5 options , i think at one point they did so for the 1903a3 barrel profile?
