I got this great book (Penned by a Mass Resident) for Christmas. Just finished it while I was out to sea. It analises the records kept in England and Whales all the way back from the Middle Ages to Present day, looking at guns and violence (and of course other weapons as well).
Most of the figures are adjusted for a per-capita to adjust for population shift, and many of us won't be suprised at the results (though some people on Becon Hill probably would be).
In the last chapter it also does a comparason of the US vs. the UK.
It's a little bit of a heavy read, but if you want dence, good facts this is a VERY interesting book.
The biggest thing I took away from the book was how erily similar England in the last century resembled the good old People's Republic of mASS.
At first the people had the right to keep an bare, then certain guns were restricted, and licences were required. Then licences became more prohibitive (both in cost and action) and so-on and so-forth untill we have the current "Gun Free" Country we have now.
A Recomended read!
I can't wait to talk to one of my Gun Fearing Wussy friends, who happens to call Whales his home. 8)
