Gun Violence report in the hands of DeLeo

I'm sure that the debate over this version of the bill, whether it is a victory or defeat for second amendment supporters, and who should/should not claim credit (NRA!!! what a joke) will continue with cause but I do have a strong opinion on one aspect of this process.

I am one of the people who contacted my representative (Rhonda Nyman) and spoke directly to her as well as her staffers via telephone and email. I received and email from her on 7/8 that told me that it was very apparent "due to the strong and reasoned opposition to several sections of the bill offered by MANY (my emphasis) people including yourself" that the bill would be significantly altered in the Ways and Means Committee discussions and that several of the issues that had discussed with her would be addressed.

It is clear to me that the strong reaction to this bill that many people took the time to communicate DIRECTLY to their representatives had an impact. IMHO the changes in this bill did not come as a result of ANY lobbying done by an organization but from direct contact/communication with representatives done by their constituents. While organizations (including GOAL) can take credit for mobilizing this effort it was the people themselves who accomplished whatever was eventually accomplished.

That is a lesson to be learned here. Nobody (GOAL, GOA, COMM2A, NRA) can protect your rights alone. You must ultimately get involved yourself.

Basically you need a computer and internet connection to sell a piece of personal property. Seems pretty legit. [thinking] It's amazing how much you guys take.

Once this is through does any one want to do a transfer in a library?
If watching porn in public is protected then we should be able to use the public computers to fulfill a legal reporting requirement.

1 - Both people meet at the library and set up the computer to record the transaction.
2 - One person goes out to get a cased rifle while the other calls the non-emergency number for the local PD to inform that they may get a call.
3 - At computer, both parties inspect the rifle very briefly and recase.
4 - Finalize the transaction.
5 - Wait for the PD to arrive

Should have a third person onsite recording.

And I did speak with my local PD about this when they said I could do transfers online instead of giving me FA-10 forms - I informed them that I was unable to use the website from home but would gladly call them before I did transfers at the library. The reaction was that while it would be perfectly legal to do, they would call to get some FA-10's so that I didn't have to (and they magically got some a little while later).

+1 This!

So, question, did you go to all the hearing screening Molon Labe not going to give up my guns no compromise! No? You somehow expected somebody else to do that for you though? Hmmm

I don't expected anyone to do anything for me .......I think you have your head in the sand if you think GOAL did not know that Peterson was going to sell out

I love it, I smell a Senate Amendment!

Time to start calling R reps about the AWB? What better time to push for a repeal than now? You are all shouting to the choir. I dont think anyone on this forum supports suitability.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^
Philosophical defeat, but politically I think the gun rights position showed some strength. Morale is high on our side, and the corrupt Statists, having "succeeded" on this issue for the moment, will be complacent to counter-attack.

1) Remove all suitability judgement from license issuance. Only prohibited persons can be denied.
2) Repeal AWB (including high cap mags).
3) Make it illegal for AG to interfere with out of state ammo sales.
4) Propose some non-rights infringing mental health reform.

If we can get a bill to the floor and put the antis on the defensive, we may actually get a real victory.

Meanwhile, I think that we should support Comm2A to sponsor FID applicants in the jurisdictions most likely to get denied and push the suitability issue into the courts.

We have an organized group that has been conversing with reps for a few months. Lets continue calling them and do what we can to strike back. We have their ears right now. Lets take them. Yapping about suitability on this forum does nothing to further our agenda. We stopped the worst of a bill, lets get one passed.

agreed!!! to actually get a phone call response to an email from my democrat rep was huge. i specifically stated i did not vote for her, but she had a duty to represent ALL constituents. our telcon lasted almost 30 minutes, concluding with her statement that she would not support the original bill.

victory??? no. stalemate?? probably. if none of us did what we did, the original bill might have passed. now it's on to the senate, and we have to keep up the pressure to insure no crap gets added back in

You are right its better to bendover and take it then it is to make them force it on you

the people of CT,NY and MD can still walk with there heads up high we on the other hand can not
Wait, WHAT!? You go ahead and bow your head in shame if you want (your words, not mine), but you won't speak for me.

I (along with many others) was at the state house, in the streets, in the hearings, on the phone, speaking out publicly, emailing and meeting with BOTH my Rep and Senator personally... I don't know whether you were there or not, but I, frankly, can walk with MY head held high. Within the bounds of the law, I did all I could and strongly believe that these actions, consistent with the spirit of the framers of this nation and with all the sacrifices my military family has made toward it, helped change the course and outcome of this bill for the better.

Until the day I again leave Massachusetts (and yes, I will leave, I never was a native here anyway), I will fight for my rights in this home with my head held high.

112 that broke their oath to uphold the COTUS. 112 that would prefer to see the innocent disarmed instead of the criminals and madmen being held accountable for their actions.
Sadly the scum that would pass these unconstitutional laws and to any that would enforce these unconstitutional laws our rights and safety don't matter. They will make up the rules as they go along and the innocent will be punished and suffer more than the quilty.

This wasn't a victory. It was a holding action. We (MA law abiding gun owners) staved off a major attack by the anti crowd. I don't think Peterson needed to vote yes. I SUSPECT his yes vote was traded for a favorable vote on something else by DeLeo or others. That's politics. Peterson did a lot to defang this.

The real story here isn't that another gun bill passed the House in MA. THATS NOT NEWS. that's just situation normal. The real story here is for the first time since 98 MA gun owners stopped a full court press by the antis and neutered the bill. Gun control is no longer a 'safe' way for a lefty to gain political cred.

We need to start pressuring he Senate now. We need to keep spreading the word. Take friends to the range. Make more gun owners. STAY involved in the process. The more of us who say **** you to these things the harder it will be for the DeLeos and Linskys of the world to pull this shit. We are a minority in this state and minorities get ****ed unless they work the system.

Who had the link to the roll call vote?

You know, one of the big arguments about not being able to vote via computer from home in this state was because the minorities or poor might not have access to computers.
So,this new bill proposing that all gun sales go through a web portal is racial discrimination.
The whole premise that one person (chief) can tell another individual they can't exercise their constitutional right (even though there is no dis-qualifier) is discrimination.imho

And I'm asking you did you expect them to go in there all Mel Gibson and scream freeeeeeeedom and this would have magically disappeared? They've (antis) been chipping away for decades and you somehow thought we were going to reverse this in one fell swoop? Who has their head in the sand? Gun owners should take this as a chance to start pushing back and continue the fight.

Well said, Bob P. I have been in constant touch with my Senator. We need to keep up the pressure.

This x10000000000

Now is really our chance to start pushing back.

That right there speaks volumes !! and never stop pushing or fighting.

As for the FID becoming a may issue instead of shall issue......Good.

I'm glad that now the FUDDS who ignored us and basically told us to **** off will see what it's like. I hope the next time hunter fred goes to get his FID whilst sneering at the AR guys at his club he feels what it's like to get a good ****ing by the COP in his town. Maybe next time his self righteous ass will stand along side us when we ask for his help. Maybe now they'll see that the pontificating we did at clubs and meetings wasn't just Alex Jones conspiracy shit and that there was and is a real threat to our rights.

HK, I (and everyone else) respect your opinions and posts, but there's no way you can say "good" to FID may issue and really mean it.

This is one of THE biggest/greatest 2nd Amendment RIGHTS that we HAD left in this f*cked up CommonPuke of LiberChusetts, and now you say "Good" that a Chief of Police "may issue"???? (like the Waltham scumball piece of sh*t who had the power to deny (and DID deny) law abiding citizens their applications for LTCs (and now would FIDs), and he had the denial power and exercised said power FREQUENTLY - all while beating the living HELL out of his own wife repeatedly in their home (submitted a guilty plea and "stepped down" from his post)

And he's just ONE of the disgusting Power-Crazed Nazi CoPs in this Fourth Reich known as Massachusetts. There are many more d*ickhead CoPs just like him, all of whom now will have the power to DENY a basic RIGHT here in the CommonPuke. Your 16 year old can be denied his first rifle, your wife her RIGHT to protect herself with Pepper Spray (don't forget, that one is still in limbo even though the public thinks it "passed" recently).

Boston, Medford, Canton, Dracut, Foxboro, Lowell, Newton, Peabody, Reading, Woburn, etc etc etc (red or black towns)....LTC? Forget it. Pea shooter? I'll "think about it and get back to you - WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT")

More "denied" stamps on more RIGHTS, and you suggest (hopefully in sarcasm??) that this is "Good" because now Elmer Fudd from Boonietown Massachusetts will be pissed off??

You are to funny I never said anything about reverseing anything I only pointed out that GOAL knew that Peterson was going to sell out .....Also Deleo said that alot of the D's was not on board of the bill and told him (Deleo) that if he could get Peterson on board then they would be on board

Derek:

I know you are unhappy about more regulations in MA. I am too. But you should be proud of what your forum has accomplished by mobilizing and putting the legislators back on their heels. If this forum was around in 1998, perhaps things would be different!

Even though we are a minority in this state, the gun owners who are active on this site wrote, e-mailed, called, and visited their legislators. This surprised them and our activism pushed them to work with GOAL and Peterson to temper the original horrible bill. This is a good day for NES activism. It wasn't 100% effective because as others have said, the bill was going to pass anyway. But, we did make a difference.

Think about the alternative if we all just "turtled up" and did nothing when the Speaker of the House submitted his original bill.

And, we will be active in the Legislative Process again and again until we fix this broken state one baby step at a time. This is on you and it is a good thing.

My email to my rep. Time to push the AWB is now.
Hello Mr D'Emilia,

I just wanted to take the time to thank your for standing against the recent bill passed by the house. Thanks to your resistance and others like you this bill was far more watered down than was originally proposed.

With the passing of this bill by the house NOW is the time to push back. Now is the time to get a repeal of the "assault" weapon ban in front of the house to further increase the rights of Massachusetts residents. We have a motivated minority population that with their calls and actions greatly reduced this bill, lets see if we can use that organized voice to expand the rights of MA residents.

Please consider doing everything in your power to get an AWB repeal in front of the house while this session is still active.

Regards,

All posting here, please remember many are pointing their reps to this thread to demonstrate the ongoing conversation. Please consider your words.
