I'm sure that the debate over this version of the bill, whether it is a victory or defeat for second amendment supporters, and who should/should not claim credit (NRA!!! what a joke) will continue with cause but I do have a strong opinion on one aspect of this process.
I am one of the people who contacted my representative (Rhonda Nyman) and spoke directly to her as well as her staffers via telephone and email. I received and email from her on 7/8 that told me that it was very apparent "due to the strong and reasoned opposition to several sections of the bill offered by MANY (my emphasis) people including yourself" that the bill would be significantly altered in the Ways and Means Committee discussions and that several of the issues that had discussed with her would be addressed.
It is clear to me that the strong reaction to this bill that many people took the time to communicate DIRECTLY to their representatives had an impact. IMHO the changes in this bill did not come as a result of ANY lobbying done by an organization but from direct contact/communication with representatives done by their constituents. While organizations (including GOAL) can take credit for mobilizing this effort it was the people themselves who accomplished whatever was eventually accomplished.
That is a lesson to be learned here. Nobody (GOAL, GOA, COMM2A, NRA) can protect your rights alone. You must ultimately get involved yourself.
