Gun sanctuaries catch on

RI update: Scituate is also coming up for a vote on this Thursday, 5/9, and Richmond will be next week.

It would be much better if True Freedom began to catch-on...

But, while it may be unpopular today, IMO, it is still worth dying for.

No article or link available re: Foster besides Facebook yet but it passed. Scituate's didn't pass yet but the resolution is scheduled for the next town council meeting.

Update:

Glocester's didn't pass because that same night, antis in Cranston attempted to get an anti-"assault weapon" resolution passed by the city, which failed because most of the Yellow Shirts went to oppose the anti's Cranston resolution. Richmond successfully passed a resolution. Here's the upcoming 2A Sanctuary resolutions scheduled:

Tiverton: 5/28, vote
Exeter: 6/3, discussion and perhaps vote
West Warwick: 6/4, discussion and perhaps vote
Glocester: TBD but will vote
Coventry: TBD
Scituate: TBD

Here is a map as of 5/18 showing which towns in RI have adopted, discussed, or tabled a 2A resolution. Note that the map is out of date in regards to West Warwick, which should be yellow instead of red. West Warwick should be interesting because the House Speaker's district includes West Warwick and he has often faced stiff (or artificially-inflated) opposition from the local GOP. Mattiello, the Speaker, stated that he is against such resolutions but is also against the idea of sanctuary cities of any kind, e.g. sanctuary cities for immigrants and 2A sanctuaries. Question is what Mattiello will do because the progressives have been pushing him around this legislative session, per a 2A friend in the RI House, and this is a push by "his" own voters: 2A supporters. Note that Mattiello, a Democrat, has either an A or A- NRA rating.

Rhode Island Second Amendment Sanctuary Towns Arise

According to Facebook, Tiverton, RI is now a gun sanctuary town. This is good because its the first coastal town to pass a resolution (Tiverton is on the Mass border next to Fall Reeve). Hopefully this will motivate people in Little Compton (do people actually live in Little Compton?!?) and Portsmouth.

Counties in Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia, Arizona, and Texas became part of a growing "Second Amendment sanctuary" movement this month.
.......

Some solidly red states, like Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, and Kansas, had already passed state-wide measures declaring that the states will not comply with any federal gun laws that they view as unconstitutional before the movement officially began. For example, Idaho's 2009 resolution specifically opposes the establishment of a federal gun licensing procedure.

But, since Effingham County's declaration, the movement has gained support in local communities across 19 states. In more liberal states, Second Amendment sanctuary legislation is being passed at the county level, and even the city level, such as in Needles, Calif.
..........

While some sheriffs of Second Amendment sanctuaries, like Weld County, Colorado, Sheriff Steve Reams, deny supporting the decision of gun owners to disobey certain state gun laws, they also admit that enforcing these types of laws aren't their top priorities. Other sheriffs, like Lake County, Florida, Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, "fully" support their county's decision, suggesting that, at least for now, Second Amendment sanctuaries might be an effective way to resist gun control legislation, and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

What ever happened in Woonsocket, North Smithfield, Charlestown, Westerly? They were marked progress/voting soon as of the May 22 post, above.

As far as I know, these votes petered out. There's no realistic chance of 2A-sanctuary resolutions being passed in Woonsocket. The other three towns are a possibility next year. The 2A-sanctuary movement in RI was intended to be a middle finger to the governor and the General Assembly. The General Assembly closes up shop typically around 6/30 every year and I haven't heard any movement on this issue since the close of the General Assembly in 2019.

If I see any more updates, I'll post about it.

Hampton will bend the knee.
Hampton city council unanimously withdraws Second Amendment resolution
HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton City Council unanimously withdrew a resolution to support constitutional Second Amendment rights.

On Wednesday, council members met to discuss potentially taking up a resolution as many Virginia localities have. After a lengthy public comment segment from both gun rights proponents and opponents, Councilwoman Eleanor Brown moved to withdraw the resolution from consideration. No other council member spoke out against the motion, so the resolution was unanimously withdrawn.

She presented a joint council statement after the withdrawal citing that the city council believed the resolution would be misconstrued as a declaration that Hampton would not follow state gun laws.
