The leading indicator of gun sales jumped in August, driven in part by Americans seeking self-protection and deep concerns congressional Democrats are going to push through expanded gun control legislation.

The overall number of background checks recorded in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System surged 15.5%, said the National Shooting Sports Foundation. That figure includes background checks done for security, concealed carry permits, and gun sales and was the highest August number ever recorded.

The industry group said that August FBI background checks adjusted for sales surged 15.2% over August 2018. The adjusted August number was second only to August 2016 during the heated presidential election.

The new surge came in the wake of heightened pressure for gun control, sales bans on military-styled rifles, and limits on ammo following a spike in mass shootings.

Good.

The post LaBamba presidency gun market needed a good kick in the ribs to let them know we’re still here.

Hopefully, The Honorable Mr. Trump doesn’t turn into a better gun salesman than the other guy, but I think the industry and our lobby can use all the damn monetary backing it can get right now.

Somehow these ass-hats are more driven to come after us even more now than post Vegas and Sandy Hook. I really can’t understand it, but when my house sells next month, i’ll likely be making some substantial primer/powder/projectile purchases.

NICS BACKGROUND CHECKS ON GUNS JUMPED 15 PERCENT LAST MONTH

August 2019 saw a serious increase in the number of firearm background checks performed over the same month during the previous year.

The unadjusted figures of 2,341,363 checks conducted through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System last month is a nearly 15.5 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,026,309 in August 2018.

When adjusted — subtracting out gun permit checks and rechecks by numerous states who use NICS for that purpose — the latest figure remains an impressive 1,113,535, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the gun industry trade organization. At the end of the day, this number is a significant 15.2 percent higher when compared to the August 2018 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 966,809.

The figure is the second-highest for the month of August in the past 20 years, only bested by the numbers from 2016, a crucial election year in which pollsters favored anti-gun Democrats to retain possession of the White House. When compared to the data from a decade before, last month’s figure was a whopping 55 percent higher. August 2019 is also the fourth month in a row that the number of adjusted checks was higher than the previous year’s data.

At the state level, the largest NICS checks increase for last month came from Alabama and Minnesota.

The NICS numbers do not include private gun sales in most states or cases where a concealed carry permit is used as alternatives to the background check requirements of the 1994 Brady law which allows the transfer of a firearm over the counter by a federal firearms license holder without first performing a NICS check

ETA: Got impatient waiting for a build, so I won a GB auction today too.

Might also be a good time to max out your 4 private sales...

I did. Bought a few more too. Ammo? Oh yes. that too. Working on the fifth additional case in as many weeks. In the name of full disclosure, I'm not sure that I should count a case of CCI Mini Mags as a real case of ammo though.

A few scoped Ruger 10/22s and cases of Minimags and The Walking Dead would have been 1 season.
