Gun buyback

I heard this buyback advertised on the radio last night, they were bragging that last year they got 13 guns off the street. Like 13 is a big number! Pathetic.

Buy-froms are pathetic. They aren't buy "backs" because the buyer never owned it in the first place.

Anyway, it's not illegal to buy a gun from someone in line, but you have to be careful. It's been discussed quite few times on these boards. Basically, you'd have to stop someone before they enter the police parking lot, or get in line. If the person then decides to sell to you, you have to escort them to an FFL to do the transfer, and you can't handle the gun until you get to the FFL. This is of course only if the seller doesn't have an LTC or FID, and only in a state like MA which requires a license just to own -- legally.

If they have an FID or LTC, then you can do a F2F sale legally.

If it was in NH it would turn into a gun show -- just like what happened in Washington State a couple of years ago.

So it is possible, but you have to be careful.

And why do they always have these things when it's cold outside?

The best thing to to with 'buy backs' is to ignore them. They're publicity stunts and Burlington isn't going to get more than a handful of guns - hopefully nothing of value.

Since the Wegman's oppended up on Newton we've done most of our shopping there. But, I make a point to always carry when I shop there :). The funny thing is that they're very carry friendly. This post from the PA firearms forum:

Hi, Dan,

We received your e-mail.

Wegmans prohibits the unlawful carry of any firearms on any Wegmans properties.

Any firearms possession must comply with all local, state, and federal laws.

Thanks for taking the time to contact Wegmans.

Sincerely,

Kim
Wegmans Consumer Services Specialist

PA people even post that they OC at Wegmans.

Maybe it's just the local people going rogue?

In defense of Wegmans, their sandwiches are excellent. :p

I'm waiting for the right gun buyback because I have a decent but unwanted Savage MkII that I'll never get more than $200 for. The last buyback didn't accept rifles though.

If it wasn't so close to Christmas I would offer you around 150.00 for that rifle. My son has a thing for bolt action rifles. I'm sure if advertised it here you would sooner or later fetch your 200.00 price, or trade for more gun fun stuff.

Jason.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if a cop stood next to you and informed anyone without an FID/LTC that unless they're dropping it off at the buyback, they are in illegal possession of a firearm and "Oh, is that properly stored? No lock? You might want to think twice about taking a ride anywhere with that. Juuuuuuust sayin'."

The woman cop from Belmont (henebury) who was getting over time saving children by working the gun buyback threatened me with a big cop. They gave me some sheet about not being allowed to solicit sales of anything (I had a sign seeking guns [smile]) without a vendors license. So I said fine, I'll change my sign to a protest and tell everyone you (waltham pd, middlesex sheriff, etc.) are ripping off the people, go to an FFL and get much more money.

She said that was be legal and fine but she'd have the largest waltham cop come down 'shadow me the whole time, block my sign and harass me until I left'. I really felt the love from the 'public' servants. Once they saw my sign which said 'willing to pay cash for firearms', they all went ape sheet. Even had the old broad from the American Legion where they were doing it come over and tell me I can't go on their property, blah blah. I never did and never would, I was on a sidewalk right at the entrance.

The are never ever 'off the street', they are from widows or other uninformed sheep. The woman cop from belmont does most of these, she was probably at the Burlington one too, she told me it's not taking guns off the street and no one is going to be safer. She knows it's a sham, they all do except the sheep.

These were the ones turned in at the Waltham one in September. http://www.northeastshooters.com/vb...-gun-buyback?p=4128622&viewfull=1#post4128622

That was their first one, and done in response to this.

Here is the reason they created the gun buyback, because of the shooting of Tyler Zanco

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/201...nzJ/story.html

The Waltham teenager who was shot in an apartment complex parking lot last week was killed during an attempted drugrip-off that was set up as retaliation against one of the suspects in the shooting, police say.

According to documents filed in court this week, Tyler Zanco, 17, and two friends from Waltham High School planned on Thursday to rob Taylor Poulin, 21, of Newton, believing that Poulin had cheated Zanco’s younger cousin of 2 ounces of marijuana in a previous drug deal.

In the five-page court document, police describe how Zanco and two friends set up the drug deal to target Poulin, also known as Tru, whom Zanco “had recently had problems with.”

The victim wanted to rip off and beat up Tru for this incident with his cousin,” a Waltham police detective wrote.

The encounter quickly turned violent, with Zanco using a stun gun on Poulin. The two men then began fighting, and Poulin cried out for Mendes to shoot Zanco, the affidavit said. According to the account in the documents, Mendes first fired the gun in the air, leading Zanco to flee across the parking lot. Mendes then allegedly shot Zanco in the back.

Let's see, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, some drug charge (buying or possession or selling, not sure from reading the story), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited electronic stun device (or however the statute is worded)

So let's have a gun buy back! Are they paying for tasers too? Drugs?

It's so amazing how the poster children for anti stuff so very often seem to be involved in illicit things... Traythiug, Mike "blunt cigar" Brown, Tyler "stungun" Zanco.
