Very old school, but I actually use a tuning fork, A-440.
Despite being the size of something you'd think I'd lose, I have had it since the early 80's. My Charvel and my Kramer Floyd Rose have an insane ability to stay in tune so I would tune them at the beginning of a show and they would be fine all night.

I always wanted to be able to use one of those, but you need excellent hearing and I'm quite deaf, so I use a Krong battery operated tuner. Not as accurate as a tuning fork but better than my hearing.

Ummmmm, can I borrow your room for a month or two.

    That looks very nice indeed.

I am still stuck in a make shift “guitar” room.

I could use a room like that, my bride is kinda getting pissed that all my gear is slowly taking over the living room, amps, pedals, wires everywhere. The look on her face when I set up the Moog was priceless though. Little does she know a Fender Blues DeVille may be making a home in the living room!!

You need to load that room up, more amps....and more cowbell!!

New guitar day. It's been 20 years since I bought my last guitar but I've had the itch for a while now and finally scratched it this week.

    Couple pics and family photo:

    Nice stable!

I’m into basses these days, and that’s most of what I’ve been buying lately.

Have any of you heard of Troy Grady and Ben Eller? If you are like me and still suck after 25 years, check this stuff out. Ben is real good at explaining guitar.

Probably the most important guys I had never heard of.

    Been quiet around here.....
The JCM800 and the Fender twin are great amps but it's either you can hardly hear them or your busting out the windows, so I picked up one of the new Marshall Origin series amps, 20 watts I think. Pretty sure it's made in some asian country but it's an amazing sounding amp. Sounds fabulous just plugged in direct and gets even better with the Strymon Riverside drive pedal and a little EQ and compression.

    Highly recommend...so far!

I have been busy building a 50 watt Marshall that sounds great, modding my DSL40C to use 6L6 power tubes if I recall correctly.

And I also just got this guy after about a 7 month wait. It is a Ernie Ball Music Man JP6 (freaking sweet).

I’m bassing more and more and guitaring less and less these days. Nice pics, @exojam, but I can’t help but think you need a little color in there!

Shit, I was under the understanding that black guitars matter? Was I wrong on this?

    How have things been going?

I am still dealing some of the same shit and a more now a days but staying alive.

I think you need to add a single cut guitar in the mix to keep the peace.

    Yes.

A big, sparkle-finish Telecaster oughta do it.

Can't let this thread die so....

Has anyone Heard of Rick Beato and/or watched any of his content on Youtube. His video series 'What Makes This Song Great?' has me completely addicted. It's a master class in studio production. There are currently about 70 episodes in the series all I think less than 15 minutes in length. Can't recommend this enough.

Edit to add... I linked episode 1 just because... Don't let the fact that it's Blink 182 dissuade you from checking out the series. The episodes run the gamut of the musical spectrum.

Anyone here following Gibson’s latest stupidity?

They’re going batshit all of a sudden about decades-old infringements on copyrights they hadn’t even asserted yet... by Dean. They’re also putting up online forms so that you can rat out your fellow musicians for their Gibbo counterfeits.

I mean, I’m just a guy on the street, but why not put a volute back on your instruments first to keep the headstocks from flying apart? Just a thought. Seems cheaper and more honorable, but that’s just me.

Gibson is in dire straights financially. They did not even attend the consumer electronics show last January--they usually have a giant entertainment building set up.

My thinking is...some lawyer told them he could get them some settlement money for patent infringement...so they are going for it

Gibson should concentrate on making a quality instrument at a good price and stop going after other manufacturers that are doing it. Wonder if they'll try to go after PRS again.

Rick Beatoff is meh. There are better guys out there like papastache102 and guitarjamz

Here’s a few of the many I own or have sold off. I know electrics are very popular here and I’ve intended to dabble but climbing that plateau always seemed too much for me. Besides I love rare woods.

Speaking of volutes I’ve seen many cracked ones, even the diamond ones.

I dunno. I’m not a Gibson fan, but my understanding is that their LPs and ‘birds with volutes have a better record of not cracking than their instruments without.

    Nice pics!

Mostly knumskulls who let it drop at full tension. I did it myself on a rare classical when I was taking pictures to sell it! Doh.....

I like exotic wood too, and I think a lot of electric tops overdo it with all the quilting. Though, I’ll cop to having a real weakness for a striped maple Fender neck.

You should check out the older 70’s Ibanez MC400’s. They have gorgeous multi layer maple through necks on those solid bodies.

Yes, the “hippie sandwich.” I love wood: I’m a woodworker, and I’ve made my own guitars from scratch, but it’s easy to go overboard. Case in point: Alembic.

I admire that Picton. It takes a lot of skill and perseverance to build a guitar.
