I recently purchased 2 handgun lock boxes from http://www.fas1safe.com and I am quite pleased with their product. The safe has a pneumatic hinged door that lifts up to present your pistol to you. It is made out of 3/16th carbon steel and is powder coated dark brown. It uses a simple mechanical Simplex lock so there is no worry about batteries dying or needing to have a key always handy to get into it. And it's heavy, it weighs in around 40lbs so it's one you're going to secure somewhere for easy access. I found this safe on a thread from http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=466203 Use the discount code below and it will cost about $205 dollars plus shipping.

I looked at Smith & Wesson's QuickDraw but decided on the FAS1 safe due to the heavy steel construction, competitive price using the code and the type of lock on this. I feel the Simplex lock is faster to operate. I really like this and would recommend it to anyone who wants their handgun nearby, but more secure than in the nightstand.

The following is from a post http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=459871 describing the safe and the discount code.

FAS1 Safe - 25% Discount

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone. A friend told me about this site and thought I should post information about our new handgun safe here. I noticed a place to post group buys and want to offer a 25% discount off MSRP for our FAS1 handgun safe. We have recently started selling it online and it is not available in retail stores. You can go to our online store at http://www.fas1safe.com and use this coupon code 0907THR25 during checkout to get the 25% discount. Feel free to pass it on to your friends as we appreciate the business. Contact information is listed there too.

Here are a few highlights:

Welded construction - 3/16" steel and weighs over 20 lbs.
Welded in place non-exposed hinge pin - 3/8" steel
Recessed Lid - pry resistant
Pushbutton mechanical lock - no batteries, electricity or fingerprint scans
Holster presents gun as lid opens - gun is always in the same place
Universal mount - drill holes and mount anywhere you like, vertical or horizontal
MADE IN THE USA - San Antonio, TX

Correction, the weight of the box is 20 lbs not 40. I had referenced the shipping label for weight, but that was the total for the 2 boxes I purchased.

Just got one of these for christmas. How are you securing it? Mine has no mount holes anywhere. Do i need to bring this thing to a metal shop and have them punch a few holes in the base so I can bolt into the floor or what? ANy advice? Also, the included holster is a tad tight for my M&P40. I have to use some force to get it in there, and if I cant find a way to secure the safe to the floor I need to literally push back on the safe as I draw my gun. I am looking for an easy way make this very fast access with one hand. Any input is appreciated.
