many think the town closed our range, not true! In fact we have one of the longest ranges in the northeast even without the 1000yd range. Targets from 100 - 500 yds including target boards, steel targets, and PRS props. Several pistol bays out to 50 yds. Extensive indoor and outdoor archery ranges, No waiting list, reasonable dues. Please check it out www.granbybowandgun.club

Do you need to be a member to participate in the USPSA matches?

I'm interested. I'll probably sign up due to range length and that I support the mission. I think there should be a full length range in MA, it's a civil rights violation what other people are doing, and it's also a shonda that we don't have one.

Some of my SC friends tease me. "100 yard range?" they say. "You mean, like, in your back yard?" they say.

That said, I'm an hour and a half away. Your matches start at 9:30am, which hurts my heart at the thought of getting up before 11.

I feel like I need some additional reason to make the jaunt. I need some persuasion to join. Maybe, a little bit of a sales pitch.

You don't have to sell me on the club, that's what puts it on the table.

Sell me on the lush town of Granby, its charming denizens, and the surrounding quaint townships. e.g.
Can I get a good meal?
Is there something there that I don't know about, but should definitely put on my bucket list?
Are all the girls out in western MA conservative, flannel wearing night stalking bow huntresses? Or, at least, gun culture 2.0 loving booth babes?
Presuming not, is there at least a decent bar (for after) with a really pretty single barmaid (for after the after).

(all in good fun, just to see what you can come up with, I've never been to that area at all)

We don't advertise but we have the Penthouse Pets load ammo during our PRS matches..
Well we tried..

I see its about 1:15 from you so its a bit of a ride but not crazy. there are several local places to eat, breakfast, etc. Not sure about bars
as I'm 45 min away and drive home but the new casino in Springfield is only 20 min away.

Its never crowded , and I think the dues are very reasonable. Great to gather dope out to 500. Sheepdog Warrior charges $1,000 yr.

Folks are friendly and can help with spotting, etc

Regards
Paul

So I'm a member at Harvard (300 yard max range) which is 10 min from my house.

I'm also a member at Granby. Qualified at 1000 yard range just before 1000 yard shut down. Stayed a member and will continue to.

I've learned a lot shooting 300 to 500 yards that I would not have shooting 300 and under. Well worth trips out there. My last two deer were 200 yards and 185 yards. Seemed easy shots after working 450 yards.

Plus Granby doesn't have restriction on shooting Muzzle loader 100 yards and under that HSC has. I shoot to 200 yards. I've killed 8-9 deer with ML and have yet to shoot one under 125 yards.

I usually go out week days and have the place to myself. Once there were two other shooters.

One negative is MacDonalds in Belchertown. Can't rely on them for second morning cup off coffee. Three times this year around 8 am closed. Once power outage ( just them) once water leak. Once ? Just had to do Dunkins.

A very nice feature for now is that I don't think there is an orientation for the current 500 yard range. I must have been at the same 'orientation' as you, northny. I use quotes because it's more of a test than an orientation. Follow the club's guidelines 100% for the orientation and it's not that bad. Show up thinking that you'll figure it out when you get there and you'll waste your time. About half the people who showed up did not pass. Have a 1 MOA or better rifle with match grade ammo and quality glass, then document your dope via actual chronograph data and scope settings as far as you can shoot- even 100 yards starting data will help.

Has the covered part of the range opened yet? It's fine shooting on either side but hopefully that issue has been resolved. Really horrible that the town and one very nasty neighbor have been able to hold club features hostage this long. Still a great place to shoot and quite cheap for dues. Yes, other members are always nice and helpful if you need it.
