BOSTON — Gov. Deval Patrick says his bill to help control illegal handguns has been hurt by gun lobbyists and may not even get debated.

Patrick told reporters Monday that he believes members of the House are "feeling the pressure from the gun lobby" to oppose a bill that would restrict licensed gun owners to purchasing one firearm a month and strengthen the penalties against illegal possessors of guns.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo had assured Patrick the measure would come up for a vote, but with the legislative session winding down, that prospect is looking unlikely.

The bill is designed clamp down on so-called "straw purchasers" who buy guns legally and then resell them to convicted felons and others barred from owning guns.

Opponents say the state should enforce its already-strict gun laws, not add more.

We may be his constituents, but we didn't vote for him, and he knows it.

His words are an apology / excuse to the people that did, as to "why" what he and they wanted didn't happen.

Its not over yet. There is still time for them to sneak it in.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Glob had a new opinion piece about it tomorrow.

I'm glad he thinks his bill might get stopped. I wasn't looking forward to buying a new gun every month.

from my viewpoint its over when its over and i DO NOT BELIEVE one word that comes

out of his mouth. DON"T let your guard down this is pure bullshit and a hopeful strategy

that we will all go away for the moment. Well here's my advice to him, WAKE up

dip twit were not going away, and we won't forget it on Nov. 2nd

Forget HOPE and remember change cause its a comin.

Now let me get this straight. Better legal minds can correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the fact that more than 5 (I think) purchases of a firearm in a week by the same person get flagged by the Feds? So if this is really a gun safety issue, instead of Deval being a total wanker, then wouldn't it be better to actually let potential scumbags do their straw purchase, get flagged, and potentially arrested? Oh, I see, Deval IS actually been a disingenuous wanker and only wants to pander to the uneducated masses in MA with "feel good" legislation that won't make a bit of difference, (like, IRC it made no difference when it was tried in VA).

Ugh...what an idiot!!!

Make that more than one in 5 days. Get's you a "multi-gun" form...

Of course only if you do that from the same FFL.

Don't know what the ATF does with N NICS checks in N days, but I imagine at some point you trigger a flag...

Anyone think we can get Deval out to the range, you know, let him try shooting, I was thinking maybe a Glock .40 with Eddie Coyle reloads...

Well, one can dream...

EddieCoyle reloading a .40? That's even more unlikely than Devoid at a gun range (other than to try to shut it down).

Ok so its been a long day and my mind is mush, but follow the picture in my mind.....

Recreation of the insurance TV commercial with Gunny: Guvnor P on the couch complaining about his bill and the "big bad gun lobby", and Gunny says to the Guvnor......... "you Jack-whimp, there ain't no lobby, you liberal, its the people of MA callin you a mamby-pamby", and throws the kleenex box at him.

You wait and see they will give him his Gun bill if he gives them their Casino bill. It sucks living in Mass. but at least I'm here giving them a fight.

Poor baby.... It's a bitch when the will of the people gets in the way of a tyrant!

the FB I does the NICS checks, not the ATF. ANd if I recall correctly, NICS is to destroy all records of a check by the beginning of the next day that NICS is running (typically the next day).....something like that at least.

That's not correct. It is two in a week from the same FFL that triggers the requirement for a Multiple Handgun Purchase form to be sent to the ATF.

[rofl2]
Yeah, they'll get right on that...

That's what they are supposed to do. I would be as shocked as the guy who got tazed at UF for asking John Kerry a question if they actually did that... [laugh]

I wouldnt be surprised if they actually did what they should do, not everything is a conspiracy.

I don't trust them one bit.

As far as the Globe, GOAL should pre-empt this, and send in an article or ask for an interview themselves!!!!

H2259!!! You Moonbat.

We _DO_ need to keep them on top of 2259. If 4201 pops up again, we need to hit it back down again like whack-a-mole with 2259 as the mallet. Just ask our senators/representatives to substitute the 2259 language in its place.

That's not correct. It is two in a week from the same FFL that triggers the requirement for a Multiple Handgun Purchase form to be sent to the ATF.

It's 2 or more at one time or within 5 consecutive business days...

ATF said:
This form is to be used by licensees to report all transactions in which an unlicensed person acquired two or more pistols or revolvers or any combination of pistols or revolvers totaling two or more at one time or during five consecutive business days.

I bought three pistols at one time from the same FFL and you bet I got the ATF form filled out!! I was told I would most likely get a call from the ATF asking why I purchased so many pistols at the same time and might even have to submit to an inspection. I had just received my new LTC first in 20yrs and I was buying my collection back. Not the exact same guns just the closest models I could find if your looking for the reason. I never did get the call from the ATF but I have heard stories from those who did.
