I know somebody who NY tried to go after saying she was a NYC resident to get their blood from. They lost. Every tax return, bank statement, DL and registration was MA based.

For a year I lived the worst of both worlds. I lived in MA and worked in NYC. Bleed dry by NYC, NY State, and MA.

Some years back I was working for a consulting firm on a project in Waltham. The leadership of that company wanted me to change to a project at an investment bank in NYC. They were surprised (and pissed) when I quit instead.

There was a case of a rich couple with multiple residences divorcing. The man wanted the case heard in a friendlier to the man state; the woman wanted a NYC judge. She offered the fact that the husband had an NYC pistol permit (I told you they were rich) as proof he was a NYC resident as they do not issue non resident permits (except perhaps to celebrities).

I'll say it again. NY, CA, MA, CT, NJ. ONE of them will figure it out in 5 years and reverse themselves. The other 4 will make some half-assed attempt and slide further into oblivion.

The tax limit on deductions maybe the biggest thing Trump did to help push all of us in the right direction.
I would lump that as number 1 accomplishment, even though I loose being here in mass.

And perhaps even more humorous is the fact that I bet most of the rich who would leave would be democrats who voted the legislators into office who then raised their taxes. And they’ll do it again in their new state.

Trump can’t raise taxes on inflated assets and then yell at the Fed to keep the asset bubbles inflated. It’s just another tax on the upper middle class.

For the purpose of a New York State pistol permit (only), NY considers a person a state resident if they have a habitable property in NY. They do not need to reside in the state. This weird situation came about when a Florida resident who lived part time in NY won a suit in NY Supreme Court to get a N.Y. pistol permit Rather than opening the door to issuing non resident licenses the state modified the qualifications for a “resident” pistol permit.

Shit, the fool barely knows where Massachusetts is located on a map.

God I wish I could have a job that I don’t do shit, barely show up and get paid handsomely.

I agree although still more happy about SCOTUS. But, the tax plan could have the biggest long-term implications. It is a huge reason for a lot of the TSD from the left, IMO. He really stuck to the high tax states and I love it even though I will be paying more in taxes now.

Honestly if I had to pick one I think MA or maybe CT will be the one to figure it out, but I don't give any odds that they will.

No, they will not. Look at CT as an example.
    Look at MA increasing taxes.

But these people are not stupid. They have money, they know how it works. The reason nothing will change is because they just dont give a sh*t and because politicians work in 4 year cycles.

MA already created a group to figure out how to tax us to go "green", and that group already proposed a $5 in and $5 out tax when going to and from Boston.

I can see them learning (sarcasm).

CT... People leave and their answer is to increase taxes. Those guys are definitely not learning.

NY is too big. They won't learn. There is too much money.

NJ, they try to be NY. Maybe NJ can work on getting rid of the smell of sh*t first.

CT isn't going to figure it out. They are actually losing large numbers of people to NYC that used to be suburban CT commuters taking the train to work in NYC. It's now cheaper for them to live where they work because CT jacked up the cost of living so much.

The big question to me is, will the government or the Fed bail out these states?

Straight up Ayn Rand. When those who pay the bills leave, the bills don’t get paid.

Would the state want them to bail them out, or would the state want to use that opportunity to get rid of a lot of debt and contracts?

Yes. If the banks were bailed out, states most certainly will because the other option is pensions and retirement funds that can't be paid, welfare that can't be doled out, so the results will be cops and EMS not working, poor people starving and close to eviction. Don't need to connect the dots for you, look at Venezuela. Imagine the things the Domestic Terrorist Fake News media aren't reporting that's happening down there.

So, the Fed gov't bails out states, what's the result of that? The state will have to raise revenue somehow to pay back some of the loan, cuz I think part of the deal will be they don't have to pay all of it back. The way the state pays it back is they cut benefits, pensions, spending and raise taxes. Your property tax, sales tax, vehicle excise tax, income tax, etc. all goes up and in return you get worse roads, unplowed roads in winter, longer wait times on police and fire because they don't have enough people to respond, DMV wait times... it all gets worse, but that's the result of a gov't that is insolvent thanks to the Socialist agenda.

The reaction to a bailout or no bailout is the same: people leaving. The removal of state/local tax write offs for the federal income tax was done to do two things: get more money from Blue states while encouraging people to leave them. If those of us in the "occupied zone" left for purple states like NH, Maine, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Pennslyvania... we could get a Republican elected every 4 years like nothing and change the makeup of the House and Senate too.
