Talk about being two face.
[rules]

Homeland Defense has releases a solicitation for Personal Defense Weapons HSCEMS-12-R-00011.

Theses "Personal Defense Weapons" as they are called are really select fire assault weapons.

I'm confused....

our semi automatic rifles are callled "assault weapons" by the government

the the goverment calls their "assault weapons" ...."personal defense weapons"

So exactly what do we have??[popcorn]

Logically now, it should be encouraged that the populace is armed with PDWs given that they are for Defense and not hunting humans. Right? Assault weapons are for committing crimes whereas PDWs are for defending yourself. So it's settled, we can now get full auto firearms, whew!

This is a dupe, but yes, we too should call them "personal defense weapons"

They are only "assault" weapons if you use them offensively as government does. Until then, they are defense weapons or gardening tools.

Incredible!! Of course that makes perfect sense to the idiocracy that is our government.

They need more guns to fire off those 1.6 bil. rounds they are buying. ;)

Anybody with a contact at FOX news they could share this with?
Really would be nice to see the news pointing out the hypocracy.

It has been making the rounds for a couple of months now.

For what it's worth, PDW has become an industry term for something between a submachine gun and a carbine. This isn't some 1984 Newspeak to change the public perception of "assault rifles", rather just another class of firearm.

Wikipedia is your friend:
A personal defense weapon (PDW) is a compact semi-automatic or fully automatic firearm similar in most respects to a submachine gun, but firing a (often proprietary) rifle round, giving a PDW better range, accuracy and armor-penetrating capability than submachine guns, which fire pistol-caliber cartridges. The class of weapon as it exists today evolved as a hybrid between a submachine gun and a carbine, retaining the compact size and ammunition capacity of the former while adding the ammunition power, accuracy and penetration of the latter.

Indeed, government has been using for a while. They didn't make it up for this request for quote.

The reality they present in that RFQ is equally true. A 30rd mag fed select fire rifle with a relatively short barrel is a good choice for defending yourself. Which is why all this "why does anyone need?" garbage is just that.
