Went out for a late day hunt Saturday and wasn't really expecting to get anything. Got up in the tree stand about 4:30 or so and waited. It was pretty uneventful, until 6:30, when I noticed two does and a fawn about 50 yards to my right. Couldn't see too much because of a big tree limb blocking my view, so I turned and looked straight ahead. When I did, I saw something move at the corner of my eye. It was a spike buck, walking right up on my stand from my left. When he got right in front of me (I was already standing), I made a noise and took the shot. He was about 10 yards away and at the perfect angle. He jumped, I saw blood, but it was a gut shot. That got me a little worried since I didn't want the deer to needlessly suffer. Plus it was going to get dark in about 15 minutes and I didn't want to take the chance of losing the deer for the night and having the meat spoil. I got out of the stand and walked down the field where I last saw it and stopped when I heard some thrashing. He only got 30 yards before he collapsed. He died right after I got up to him. He was a good 120 or so. Anyway, i'm excited to finally get one with a bow.![Grin [grin] [grin]](/xen/styles/default/xenforo/smilies.vb/041.gif)
BTW, it wasn't a true gut shot. Turns out I hit him in the actual stomach and the liver. Field dressing him wasn't bad at all.
