w00t! 4 weeks to the day from application submission and CT usually takes longer, as the local PD can control Temporary State Permit issuance up to 8 weeks. Now to go to the state (DESPP) this week and get my permanent photo permit, and off to the store to go shopping!!

Well, it's not the CT SPBI backlog anymore, thats for sure. I was shocked. If its been 8 weeks since the date of filing with your local issuing authority, and you have the dates, call the authority and I inquire, then file an appeal ASAP, as this is the only way we can bring the local abuses to light and get things changed in this state. The Board of Firearms Permit Examiners can issue on the spot if all is in order, but the appeal process hearing dates can go out months.

But im not in CT and this is 8 weeks after the inter view, its suposed to be 6-8 but im not sure if that counts before the 5 week there behind or not, [sad]

Just a reminder that in CT it's not a CCW permit. It's a pistol permit. (or technically a "Permit to Carry Pistols And Revolvers") The word concealed is neither on the permit nor in any statute.

Enjoy. Now get some more instruction and go buy yourself a .22.

Don

Technically, you're right, but practical reality and enforcement is CCW, regardless of the statute. It's getting better, but not there yet from the view of many LEOs. Yes, they are wrong, but many LEOs in CT don't know the law.

As for experience and training, I have plenty, and have been shooting for over 30 years, my .22 pistol has plenty of lead through it already, as does my .40 and 9mm. My permit lapsed 10 years ago, and I never got around to recertifying and applying again until recently, due to multiple reasons (wife), but she wants to learn to shoot now, as do my children.

Training will continue in earnest now, and range time and more classes are in my future. My shooting over the last 10 years has been on my brother's property, with his pistols and my long guns.

Not sure if you were being snide or simply hazing, but assuming I am new to firearms simply due to my recent membership here is interesting.

I made the mistake of assuming that you were a new shooter. Most people who come on showing your level of enthusiasm over getting their pistol permit (a great thing) are new shooters. So I made that assumption. I apologize.

It sounds like you don't need my advice on what gun to buy.

With respect to your incorrect use of the term CCW permit, I do get a bit snippy. Words have meaning. Calling it a CCW permit implies that the permit is for concealed carry. Its not. Its for carry. Period. Your use of this incorrect term may affect others and at the very least suggest that concealment is a requirement.

You are a bit behind the times with respect to LEOs knowledge of the law. Nobody has been arrested for OC in CT in about 2 years. The civil suits brought on by Goldberg and Burgess have put an end to most harassment. Political activism in support of the right to OC by groups like CT Carry and CCDL have further brought the issue to the point where most cops know the law. This weekend is the 2A rally at the Capitol. Expect to see a lot of people OCing.

The practical reality (your term) is that CT really IS an OC state.

1) No arrests in 2 years.
2) no prosecutions for breech of peace, which is all that anyone can be charge with, in as long as I can remember.
3) explicit acknowledgement by the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners that OC is legal.
4) tacit acceptance by the CT DPS that OC is legal
5) DOZENS of people OCing in CT on a daily basis without harassment.

I don't personally OC, but I strongly support the right of others to do so. For me, the OC movement in CT has freed me from the need to conceal 100%. I used to get in front of a mirror and bend and stretch looking for the slightest bulge. Most of the time, I ended up using an uncomfortable IWB holster or a mousegun in my pocket.

Now I am comfortable carrying a Glock 34, 22, or Commander sized 1911 in an OWB holster with nothing more than a T shirt over it. Amazingly, I've never had anyone give me a second look. Its truly liberating. Especially since I spend a lot of time with my two gorgeous little girls and being armed with a firearm that I also shoot competitively means that if the unthinkable ever happens, I'll be able to do my best to defend the most important people in the world to me.

I'm sorry if I came across as unwelcoming in my earlier post. Welcome aboard.

It's all good Don, and no harm no foul in my book. You're right about alot of the LEOs, but some towns are downright OOC about OC, so concealed is the best option. It has been many years since I carried, and I have to get used to it all over again. I am a lifelong firearm enthusiast who bender to the will of his wife years ago, by all is right again in our house. I meant no misinformation and the permit for CT is as you state, its alot about how comfortable one is with the options we have.

Now to get my SuperTuck and a new belt. Sold my old 9mm yesterday and picked up a new SR9c, along with a SR22 for plinking, keeping my old .22 revolver.

This forum has so much good information, it keeps me reading every day here. Glad to be here and glad to be green.
