So I work as a gun shop manager in a big-box sporting goods store. Tuesday a group of 3 yoots brushed closely past me as I was stocking product on a shelf, on their way towards window shopping the handgun counter. Well-dressed, but obviously not employed as they were in the shop at 11:00 am, which is their usual visiting time. They have been buying paintball equipment recently, which I understand is a new trend among urban yoots as a non-lethal means of intimidating their "enemies".

They are known felons and shoplifters, and under 21. I allowed them to window shop all they wanted, that's not a problem.

When they went to the handgun ammo display and started handling boxes although they can't legally buy handgun ammo, I walked up, said "Good morning." They answered, "What?" in a challenging manner. "Good morning, how can I help you today?"

"Why you following us? Leave us alone, n-word. We gonna slap you." "I'll smack you around."

From there, they escalated their language, including, "You better have good life insurance, because I"m going to get you," and "We'll see you outside." "I'll be waiting for you, n-word." Lots more n-bombs and f-bombs were hurled at me as I escorted them to the door.

So even if they have been banned from the store and told by local PD (who instantly recognized them from the video clips we sent them) that they will be arrested if they try to enter it, what do you think the probability is that they might wait for me one night as the store closes and attack, or follow my vehicle and attack me on the road or at home? Or is it merely big talk from urban punks?

It's funny how life changes on the borderline between "communities". Now my head is on a swivel constantly, and I scope out the entire parking lot for stalkers before walking to my car. I'm living in Condition Orange. It's stressful.

On a serious note: If they really are following u and are clearly going to try and harm/kill u then u need to throw them off. It should not be to hard with these idiots. Take different vehicles to work if can, take different routes to and from any of your common destinations and try to have a buddy whenever possible. Those are some basics. If u do have to shoot defensively it’s sounds like u might be ok given how known they are to LE. But this is Mass so have a plan and CCW insurance.

Take it seriously, how many attacks have happened with all kinds of warnings that no one took seriously.

Change schedule, route, stay armed at all times and park under a camera in a lit area - away from other cars - no cover for the yoots

First, try lowering your pants to your knees so they can see your boxers clear as day. Next, turn your flat-billed snap-back NBA cap to the side about 45 degrees and leave all "Officially Licensed" product stickers in place. Extra cred is given if holographic. Finally, in a firm, but whinny voice say "Waddup my niggas!"

You will instantly be accepted as their Capo di tutti Capi, and they will become your Shorties.

Rule with an Iron Fist.

And remember, you get first pick of da bitches...

Head on swivel, make sure your not followed. When driving leave your self an out don’t tail gate, leave space in front at traffic lights. Your mind, ccw and car can be used as a weapon.

Ccw insurance is a great idea, also consider a drive cam.

Also display picture of youths in break room so everyone knows who is involved.

First off the PD does have the threats on file right?

Secondly you do carry right?

I was threatened with getting my head blown off by a very pissed off step family member many years back. I went to the PD and filed a report. The inspector asked if I was in fear and I replied sort of but I doubt he could find my address but if he does I’ll take action. She said you know not to wound and I replied he will leave my house in a body bag.

He died alone. I never shed a tear over that old prick.

Threatening a gun owner, doing so on video surveillance in the store, and then actually following through would be about the stupidest thing someone who values their life could do. I'm sure it was just talk. In any case - it's simple assault. I would press charges. GEtting the event on the books officially can only help you. Hell it may even be a probation violation for one of them sending them back to the clink.

you gotta take it seriously but i bet they forgot about it and moved on to more important things like trying to shake down the indian dude at the quickie mart.

You have my complete sympathy. I am hoping for your sake that it is just tough talk from urban punks. I live in the city and I hear this kind of threatening talk from time to time. When I do I put my head down and ignore it and I have never been attacked. I have a LTC but it is restricted.
I think these kids know they can run their mouths all they want without much fear of retribution, but hopefully they are smart enough to realize that if they act on their threats there will be consequences. Also, now that they have been banned from the store they will most likely move on to some place else. One thing they generally lack is any kind of patience.
This can be very unsettling to say the least. You have my complete sympathy. Please be careful and stay alert!

File a police report, even if it goes nowhere. I'd look into getting a no-contact or protection order. Keep documenting any further contact or harassment. Try to get copy of any video footage of your encounter. If they've been given a no trespass notice, call LE every time they show up. It's all about generating a paper trail.

Even if these steps do nothing to stop further threats, a paper trail could be very valuable should something more severe occur later. It could even help in getting an unrestricted license issued.

That being said, the number of loud mouth tough guys far exceed the number willing to carry out actual violence. Not saying you're wrong to be on edge, but odds are good it's an idle threat. Be mindful when coming and going from work, since that's the place where they know to find you. These kinds of idiots aren't going to be doing elaborate surveillance.

Seriously. Don't shoot kids that are armed with paintball guns. Knock their teeth in instead. Why does every thread end in gunplay?

This is your first and best weapon...

3:1 odds is not the time for a fist fight, and someone brings the fight to me; I will use every dirty trick in the books to get home and not give a second thought about them.

These "Under 21" are more than likely just teenagers with a Rap vocabulary. They probably hassled the lady in the Shoe Department too.
I'm just saying every answer here is 'choot 'em.
Kinda like every answer in a French Cuisine Forum is "Top with Bearnaise Sauce"...

Thanks guys. A fistfight is not for me, being over 60. You know how it goes, too old to fight, too slow to run... Also I don't believe in close-up altercations that guarantee I'll receive damage. If you are in a fair fight, you have a bad strategy. I much prefer long-range rifle tactics. But the geographic and other circumstances dictate that a concealed pistol is the only appropriate tool for the job if needed.

Additionally when you are walking from your car to work or work to your car have your cell phone out and video recording. It is actually a good way to de escellate a confrontation. I used it a year ago when a road rager followed me into a market basket parking lot.....blocked me in after I parked and got out and started screaming at me to get out of my truck so we could "take care of things like men"......I got my phone......turned in the video and held it up to the glass.. ....he got smart quick and got in his car and left. I was carrying at the time......but the first reaction should be de escellation......a cell phone recording can do that pretty well.

All you white guys look alike, they wouldn’t even be able to recognize you 2 days later.

And don’t worry bout them following you, the T bus don’t go that fast.

And if ya don’t want bangers handling the ammo, put it out of reach.

And don’t give anyone attitude, and not expect pushback.

While I agree it shouldn't always end with shoot the children. But let's be honest 4 punk ass kids jawing away might be scared off by knocking one out, but at the same time I'm not letting people have a Chance to stab me with 4 people present. Where's my now-legal taser at? /joke but yeah, I'm not looking for a quick reason for the state to try and make me an example and bend my ass over. Descalation over the simple children.

Learn the law so that you know exactly how to react to different threat levels without getting yourself jammed up later on. Carry always and be aware of your surrounding including on the way home.

As someone else posted, these shitbags have nothing except for running their mouths and expecting people to take it. Most likely it's just shit talk and will go nowhere, but keep your eyes open anyway. (Something we should all be doing regardless.)

If something does happen, politely inform the police you have nothing to say until you speak with an attorney.

Bonus points if you have to shoot and turn your Glock sideways and cap em gangsta style!

But seriously, carry both a gun and pepper spray, and the rest has been covered already. Head on a swivel, park under bright lights away from other cars, don't give them any cover, vary your routes, etc.

Good luck man. [thinking]
