So I work as a gun shop manager in a big-box sporting goods store. Tuesday a group of 3 yoots brushed closely past me as I was stocking product on a shelf, on their way towards window shopping the handgun counter. Well-dressed, but obviously not employed as they were in the shop at 11:00 am, which is their usual visiting time. They have been buying paintball equipment recently, which I understand is a new trend among urban yoots as a non-lethal means of intimidating their "enemies".
They are known felons and shoplifters, and under 21. I allowed them to window shop all they wanted, that's not a problem.
When they went to the handgun ammo display and started handling boxes although they can't legally buy handgun ammo, I walked up, said "Good morning." They answered, "What?" in a challenging manner. "Good morning, how can I help you today?"
"Why you following us? Leave us alone, n-word. We gonna slap you." "I'll smack you around."
From there, they escalated their language, including, "You better have good life insurance, because I"m going to get you," and "We'll see you outside." "I'll be waiting for you, n-word." Lots more n-bombs and f-bombs were hurled at me as I escorted them to the door.
So even if they have been banned from the store and told by local PD (who instantly recognized them from the video clips we sent them) that they will be arrested if they try to enter it, what do you think the probability is that they might wait for me one night as the store closes and attack, or follow my vehicle and attack me on the road or at home? Or is it merely big talk from urban punks?
It's funny how life changes on the borderline between "communities". Now my head is on a swivel constantly, and I scope out the entire parking lot for stalkers before walking to my car. I'm living in Condition Orange. It's stressful.
