Goose Hunting?

I was checking out the price of a goose for Christmas dinner and you're spending about $144 if you buy a 12lbs goose at Savenor's at $12 p/pound. That's way too much to spend on meat. I don't know anyone who hunts goose and its never been something I've had an interest in. Until now that I learn how expensive the stuff is.

Is anyone going goose hunting this winter? Mind if I tag along?

I may go out this late season in Central. The best way is to hunt them with blinds/decoys/and calling. They have beyond excellent eyesight. You won’t creep up on them and from a long distance they will scope you out and avoid you. They mostly stay in rich neighborhoods around Greater Boston, common areas, public ponds with setbacks 499ft or less, and any other off limit areas.

Setback and off limits area buster that will hold a gaggle

I went out all last season with not much success on the south shore. They seem to avoid you on public land, and won’t come near decoys, so you’re limited to getting lucky enough to jump shoot them. Best option is probably a field where they feed but they seem to be few and far between, or owned by corps you can’t get in touch with. You’ll see plenty of them along the highways and in public parks on the way to and from your hunting spots though.
