My youngest leaves for college next Friday. So he wanted to go to the range this morning and continue our friendly competition. Well with the AR at 100yards he kicked by butt. With the .44 at 50 yards it was pretty even. With the 9 and 45 I took him. Winnings for the day $5. Time spent with my youngest shooting and having a blast..... Great start to the weekend!

Nice:) my daughter (10 & 12) are getting pretty good with the .22 at 50 yards, gonna be taking Dad pretty soon... As soon as I get my new Sig Mosquito straightened out I imagine I will be in trouble there as well. Those young eyes...

I need to have something done about my Mosquito's trigger. Sucks.

After much experimentation with springs, oil and ammo, I have gotten ALMOST everything worked out… CCI Minimags work best, the HP feeds poorly for some reason, but the round nose work fine. The shorter spring is for stingers or hyper-velocity rounds per Sig, the longer one is for the minima's. MAKE SURE to put the tapered end towards the rear of the gun. Dunno why it matters, but it DOES work better.

What I need to get resolved is an SA/DA issue. Usually, when I rack the slide, my first shot or two work fine. At some point, I get a FTF. Re-cocking the hammer is ineffective, sometimes 3-4 times. I finally decided to try shooting DA, and once I did that. ALL my FTF's shot just fine. Something like this… Bang, bang, bang, click, cock, click, cock, click, NO COCK DA pull, bang. Once I figured it out, EVERY time I had a FTF I just pulled the trigger without recocking and it went bang EVERY time. Weird…

Now, for a disclaimer… I shot ammo from 3 different boxes of minima's, purchased at 2 stores MILES apart, and weeks apart, so it's not a bad batch. My 22 ammo is kept in a locked cabinet with military grade desiccant packs, so that's not it. The gun was cleaned to within an inch of it's life, and lubed well. Both mags were taken apart, cleaned, blown out with a compressor, and had a lightly oiled rag pulled through to prevent corrosion or drag, NOT oiled like a gun. Both followers were smoothed a little by vigorous rubbing on my Hoppe's cleaning mat, nothing abrasive or pored used. I now have at least 300+ rounds through it, and the guy I bought it from (here btw) had at least that many, so any manufacturing burrs should be gone.

So, when I get done at MFL and they work their magic, I'll let everybody know what we did. Being the jeenyus I am, I think it probably has to do with a weak/soft hammer release is SA. And I want the trigger fixed too, but not until I get the FTF issue fixed.
