HB 101-FN if passed will allow schools to regulate firearms unfettered not only upon school grounds, but throughout the entire school district. As a practical matter, for example, the Merrimack Valley School District hosts 6 separate towns. Therefore, under the language of this bill, MVHS would be able to regulate firearms in all 6 towns including homes, streets, etc. It is unacceptable to allow schools to infringe on our unalienable rights! This bill is scheduled for 2/13/19 at 9am in room 210-211 in front of the Education Committee.

HB 564-FN will make it a Class A Misdemeanor to carry a firearm in a “safe school zone” (meaning an area inclusive of any school property or school buses). One listed exception will permit individuals who are picking up or dropping off a student provided the firearm is unloaded and remains in the vehicle in either a locked container or locked rack. This is particularly problematic for those who walk their children to and from school. It could result in people loading and unloading their firearms just outside of the safe school zone. This bill is scheduled for 2/13/19 at 10am in room 210-211 in front of the Education Committee.

We urge you to contact members of this committee and inform them of your opposition to these two bills. You can email every member of the committee simultaneously at: [email protected]
