Palm Coast mom OK after son cleaning gun accidentally shoots her

A Palm Coast woman who was accidentally shot by her son said she's fine.

Jody Sue Johnston, 53, was unloading the dishwasher Thursday shortly before 9 p.m. when she was shot in the hip, according to a Flagler County sheriff's report.

Her 27-year-old son, Todd Johnston, was cleaning his 9mm Glock handgun at the dining-room table when he inadvertently discharged a round, which traveled through his mother's hip and lodged in the wall,

he began "field stripping" the gun, a process that requires the trigger to be pulled to remove the slide, when it discharged.

Maybe we can pass a law that bans cleaning loaded guns, especially those dangerous glocks. Its ok its for the children...*sarcasm*

this is my one problem with GLOCKs or any pistol that you HAVE to pull the trigger to take down.

i can see a noob forgetting to drop the mag and putting a hole in his VCR [laugh]

No offense to anyone but people who don't know their safety checks should never be allowed to own. That's just me tho.

And who would determine whether someone knows their safety checks or not? Maybe the chief of police should make that determination, you know, after receiving a certificate of safety course completion.

Sorry, I just wanted to get that out because I knew it was coming. I agree with you, but it comes with the caveat that .gov will then be able to impose any other requirements for the sake of safety. Can't own a gun if children are present, if an in urban area, etc. Sometimes you need to take a little bad for a greater good.

I'm most curious about his questionable interpretation of a "safe direction". There may some deep-seated mommy issues here........

It's not a problem, unless you have terrible safety habits. I look at it this way... Glock is only helping Darwin do his thing. [rofl]
