All we need is is a safe berm wide enough for 4 feet per shooters at a firing line 25 meters away. Anything else (1000 meter range, target holders, hot dogs, toilets, shade, something other than broken glass to lay on) is just gravy. If you have such a place (preferably with room for 15-30 shooters) and want an Appleseed there, here's how we do it.

Note: There will be a prize for the first people to secure ranges in NH, ME, and RI. This is much better than the prize that goes to the last people to secure ranges in the last state in the US with an Appleseed and I don't want it to be one of us. Remember, it doesn't have to be a club! Bare land (with owner's permission) is just as good if not better.

1. Get board/owner approval for range access on both Saturday and Sunday 9ish to 5ish. (similar times like 10ish or 4ish are ok too). The spiel goes something like this:

Appleseed is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization dedicated to awakening the Rifleman that lives inside every American through history and marksmanship education.

If they need more info, there's tons of it on http://appleseedinfo.org and I'd be happy to answer any questions directly. Remember, active military, under 21, and women shoot FREE. All others shoot for just a little bit more than free. We are insured and can furnish proof of said insurance.

The RWVA is very pleased to partner with your club/range to present this Appleseed Shoot and thanks you for helping a Cause that many talk about, but few do anything to actually help. To better understand what to expect, please read carefully the information provided below to make the Appleseed at your range the best Appleseed ever:

The RWVA is providing instructors, targets, full course of fire, liability insurance, national and regional promotions.

RWVA will be responsible to police up brass from this event or leave for the range owner if desired, as well as pick up all trash that is a result of its use of this facility

In order to conduct an Appleseed Shoot, the RWVA will need exclusive use and control of the ranges used for this event. This is to include the ability to check and set targets without interference from those not participating in this event. The course of instruction includes shooting in the standing, sitting and prone positions. We operate by strict safety rules; in the event there are special safety rules relevant to your range, we will strictly adhere to them.

All participants and observers on the range during the Appleseed will be required to sign RWVA liability waivers.

You agree to promote the Appleseed within the club/range membership, local gun shops and related business and locations by seeing that flyers advertising the event are set out. RWVA will make a master flyer available for local reproduction, along with full-color brochures about the Appleseed program, if requested. Our experience has shown that local effort to 'get the word out' can have a dramatic impact on actual turnout.

You agree to ensure that the ranges reserved for this event are not in conflict with other events. The club/range is responsible to ensure and that RWVA staff will have access to the range and facilities by 7:30 am each day of the event.

You agree to provide target stands and backers. are required to be provided by the club/range, RWVA will provide direction as to the set up and assist with volunteers when able. If you can supply volunteers to assist in parking, registration, food preparation, etc, it would be most appreciated.

Please ensure the above information is accurate, as it will be used in the promotion of this event.

The intent of this agreement is to promote the Cause, and to work together to maximize the size and impact of the event at your range/club. We are very interested in your feedback as to what you like and disliked (or see the need for us to improve). This should be a win-win for both of us, and both of us should be satisfied at the end of the event, as we would like to come back to your facility in the future. In fact, we hope that you will, when all is over and done, give us a testimonial that we can use as an introduction to future potential hosts to encourage them to participate in this growing program.

Range Owner or Agent

3. Congratulations, you're now the range agent (or BOTG: Boot on the Ground) for this shoot. I'll get it approved and set on the Appleseed end, line up instructors, and make a flyer.

4. Promote: We need people to show up. We need flyers posted at the range and gun shops, internet boards posted, club newsletters updated, something sent to GOAL if there's enough time for the outdoor message. You get the idea. I'm bad at this and need people good at this to help.

What crak is saying about NH, ME and RI is 100% true.

YOU be the one that finds that range for the FIRST Appleseed (not a mini) in one of those states, and between crak and I, we can come up with something decent for you. Not only that, you'll get national recognition for doing so.

Now, let your state be the LAST in the US to have an Appleseed, and you're going to be reading about it in Shotgun News, and eat a LOT of crow along the way.

We've got some excellent Instructors in the area, and they will come do an event in YOUR area. So, how about it?
