Okay - if memory serves - before Katrina hit, the Hess station across the street from my house was selling gas at $2.65 (+/- a couple cents). It is now at $2.49 a gallon. It's cheaper than it was before the panic hit. anyone else notice this??

Yup. Gassed up at 2.49 Monday at the Citgo in Marlboro on RT 85, and Kath paid the same at the Exxon in the middle of Marlboro at Rt 20 & Lincoln St.

Most around here are $2.55-2.65/gal. However the busiest/biggest station in the area, Rojo's is at $2.45/gal.

Of course the pump auto-started on me at $0.06 the other day instead of Zero! Maybe they are making it up at the front end? :?

I figured that it will settle in ~$2.50/gal and most everyone will be happy again . . . until they get another excuse to gouge us for more. Each time this happens, it settles out at a new, higher level.

We are at 2.18 a gallon for 10% ethanol and .2 cents more for unleaded.

Wow! that ain't bad at all.

Hess just dropped down to $2.45 this AM. Maybe because Citgo across the street dropped theirs to $2.49. I just LOVE competition! :D

If you remember, EPA allowed the remaining refineries to sell gas that isn't as processed as pre-Katrina. Burns bit dirtier, but also cheaper. When the temp allowance is lifted, see gas prices start to go up again as they add in the cost of the extra refining.

See Here for more info.

What you guys don't know the "Secret Republican Handshake"?

I filled up my 3 hummer H1s for 16c a gallon, and I spilled a lot of it on the ground!

I laughed a LOT at that since it was both wastefull AND it killed animals!

World oil prices in the Futures market is bearish.... so you guys can really expect price to be going down some more! Demand for this season is kinda low.

Prior to Katrina... oil prices should be going down... that was the trend. So the increase immediately after Katrina could just be expected but since prices has been set and the trend and demand is going pretty low... prices should be going down.

If I am not mistaken.... demand may go up, prices as well, by February 2006.

Yup, $2.399 at Rojo's Shell in Norwood this afternoon. Other stations were in the $2.459-2.619 range from Norwood to Waltham.

There are a bunch of factors that are forcing prices downward. One is that the refinerys on the Gulf Coast sustained less damage and are getting back on stream much faster than expected.

The more important factor is that world wide demand is down right now.

There are a couple of other things on the horizon that might even drive it lower, but not right away.

First, the devolpment of an economical method to extract oil from shale. There are huge, as in larger than all of Saudi Arabia, reserves in the west, but it's not been economically feasible to extract it. Shell seems to have developed the technology. It will just take some time to put it into prodution.

Also, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests that oil didn't come from dinosaurs and trees. Abiotic Oil as it's called, is now thought to be a natural mineral product. If so, there could be a lot more of it than we think.

Of course, we'll all drive solar powered cars soon anyway! <G>
