gas piston conversion kit instalation.

A friend of mine asked me to put a Gas Piston conversion kit on his AR-15. I have never done one before although I have built many rifles. Is it as straight forward as it looks?To me it looks like a new BCG and replacing the gas block is the majority of the job. Any other tips or advice????

It depends on the kit, which one is he going to use? I've done a few Adam Arms kits, and the only special thing is the bushing inside the upper receiver.

I installed the kit last night and it was a breeze. The hardest part (that was not that hard) was installing the bushing in the Upper.

If it used a bushing in the receiver, it was probably the Adams Arms kit.

Adams Arms makes a great kit and their customer service is top notch. How did the gun shoot?

It functioned fine. As I said it is my friends rifle and Im not sure I would spend my money on a piston kit. Im not convinced it will make any signifigant change for the casual semi-auto shooter. I think the only real benifit would be for someone who puts a tone of rounds down range or on a Full-auto rifle
