The show diverged greatly, almost from the middle of season one, and kept going. What makes a good book does not always make a good screenplay.

    Hence, this:

I think the screenplay was phenomenal through season 5, even though I know it diverged from the books....reality is, the books are simply too long to develop into a show that will do them justice, but as 1-5 were at leased based on source material, the show was solid.....once they passed beyond what fatty mcgee had written, the writing quality very obviously declined. It's too bad.

Breaking Bad kind of ruined TV shows for me because I think it's the only series I've ever seen where they wrapped it up and ended it without rushing it nor milking it...

HBO f***ed up this one.....I kind of hope HBO spends a hundred million of their spinoffs and they all flop for huge losses.

As far as I can remember, he was never really developed in the books. He came in to claim the Salt Throne, but that was about it.

From what I remember, that checks out.
That and something to do with the horn he found being partly to blame for the Wall falling.

The horn was to summon dragons. The blower of the horn was said to be able to take control of a dragon.

    Or some such nonsense

Also in the book, the crew member that blew the horn eventually burned from the inside out.

I think he's going to play a part in the book endgame (assuming there is one someday), but the books are so far behind, they haven't actually gotten into him too much
Last I heard of him he sent his brother Victarion over to pick up Daenerys & her dragons with the Iron Fleet.

the portrayal in the books is ok, not like the loony caricature in the TV series. i'm thankful they left out the eyepatch....that would have been ludicrous looking.[laugh]

Jumped...the...shark. Still entertaining, but off the rails. Who knew that the Mountain was in fact Darth Vader! And he pulls swords and daggers from his torso and skull and keeps on living!

    -- Dany goes nuts.
-- John realizes Dany went nuts.
    -- Mountain/Hound scene goes nuts.
    -- Burned bodies everywhere.
    -- The ocean is back!
-- This time arrows from the scorpions can't seem to hit anything.
-- Dragon fire blows through castle structures like butter.
    -- Stone burns.
-- Jamie and Cersei appear to be entombed.

Awesome episode... 10/10 (now we know where the CGI budget went).

More than makes up for the lackluster S08 previous episodes

    Varys... dead
    Euron... dead
    Jamie... dead
    Cersi... dead
    The Hound... dead
    The Mountain... dead
    Qyburn... an awesome dead
    Did I miss anyone?

Honestly this episode had me questioning the HBO machine that twists it in a bad way.

Yes, i get it.. danny has no friends in the seven kingdoms..
But why... blow up the whole damn thing. I understand that every time tyrion has told her to do something it has gone bad in the past. But every conquerer has known the universal symbol of a nation laying its arms down on the ground to signify defeat and surrender. She saw it with her own eyes on the ground, why kill them all. Honestly the show could have been written better. The Hound and Arya get up there, and defeat big red herself. The hound died killing his bro, and jamie gets finished off by arya for her mom.and just as the fight is about to get started.. bells ring for the queens demise. The golden company lays their arms down. And the whole circle of game of thrones resets for the future spin off.

Next episode will be tyrion's death, and Danny's as arya kills danny after tyrion dies, who just happens to get killed by grey worm, who then gets killed by john snow who gets the unsullied to follow him because he is targaryeon (sp)?

So they turn Dany overnight from a hero to a psycho, Arya from. Killing machine to ‘oh I’ve snapped out of it’ and rides the Horse Ex Machina our of the city. Snow has been getting progressively ghayer since they brought him back to life and Sansa is basically to blame for the death of about a million people. It was visually fun but the transformation of the characters was not believable.

    1) Dany wised up, she flew in from the direction of the sun.

    2) “will you shut up! It’s fantasy! You’re so annoying!”

    Name them. [wink]

Sansa could end up ruling the seven kingdoms yet...

Dany kills Jon in a rage after the inevitable confrontation, then is poisoned by Varys's kitchen girl after the fact.
It'll probably be Arya killing her, but it'd be better if varys were responsible. Arya's too OP now.

Honestly the most surprising thing for me was seeing how many Dothraki were left.

And from height, those crossbows didn’t seem to have much elevation and didn’t seem to have more than 180 degree coverage. I still think she was too exposed strafing the fleet (tight close in banked turn instead of flying out and taking time to come back in) and only having them on the perimeter wall of the main city let her get behind all of them once she knocked the first breach in the perimeter. Once that happened and she got behind everything, they had no chance. Didn’t really even need Snow’s army at that point, just fry em all.

Dany didn't go psycho overnight, it's been happening since she decided to eat a deer heart for Khal Drogo and crucifying the slave masters in Mereen and roasting Sam Tarly's brother and father for not bending the knee. In fact Dany has a long history of roasting people. Should she have roasted nearly all of Kings Landing? Was that necessary? One thing for sure she lost Jon last night when he witnessed the cruelty of both her dragon and her army.

If he does I think he will hop on a horse afterwards and ride north of the wall to live out the rest of his life with the free folk. I think he had enough Westerosi infighting.
