GA - Woman Shoots Teenage Burglar

According to the Macon Police Department, a woman shot a 17-year-old when she found him inside her home trying to steal things.

Spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says it happened around 7 p.m. Sunday night in the 3600 block of Bayne Street.

Gaudet says when the woman returned to her home, she found 17-year-old Michael Jerome Ballard inside trying to steal her belongings.....

Gaudet says Ballard was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

If this was Massachusetts, the homeowner would be in jail for shooting someone who was not a direct threat. Just because Ballard was stealing her stuff doesn't mean she should have feared for her life. She should have just let him take her stuff and go, then call the police (not even 911 - just the non-emergency number), and filed a report. I'm sure he just wanted her stuff so he could pay his tuition. Or his child support bill.
