FS Used Guns

Most people think the consignment is like a buyer's premium at an auction, not a selling expense deducted from the market value of the gun.
There are some times where you can get away with that as a consignment seller and other times where it doesn't make any sense. I had one of those seecamps once which I sold for enough of a markup that I basically got all my original money back... but that was because those were limited production guns where the people that wanted them were basically like cult followers. 🤣 zero regrats on that one. It sold in under a week, too.

It was a preban IMI mini with a folding stock i think. This was a long time ago but this gun was iconic among FS regulars. Eventually after like a decade the seller had a moment of weakness and took an offer from somebody for a slightly more reasonable price from what I was told. 🤣
I’m know it happens everywhere but I don’t get why people in this state love to price gouge people. Looking at classifieds here is depressing. Half the time used common accessories that are readily available still get marked up 20 or 50 bucks.

Today a used surefire warden sold, his asking price $250. You can get them on other forums for as low as $170 used or $200 new.

I get the whole capitalism and there’s always a sucker. Just disheartening people are so eager to screw someone and people are so smooth brained here.

I don’t, It’s price gouging and it’s slimey. It’s always the buyers fault. Sellers are still pieces of shit

Many (most?) are on consignment, so blame the sellers, not Four Seasons. Some sellers will negotiate. Some won't. The ones priced to sell quickly, do so. I've sold at least 1/2 a dozen guns on consignment at Four Seasons. Most sold quickly.
100% agree

If you don’t like someone’s price, then don’t buy it. 🤷‍♂️ People have this weird idea that if someone sets a price that they don’t like that it is somehow immoral, as though they are the arbiters of right and wrong when it comes to pricing.

Agreed - I see random used items for sale in the accessories forum that cost more than the same item new on Amazon, eBay and other platforms. I chuckle and move on - no need for more than that.

Who put you in charge of what is and what isn’t a fair price? If you don’t like someone’s price, then don’t pay it.
I know you’re using the “that’s the market” argument. But a used product way over what it costs new is not a fair price.

People can buy or sell for whatever prices they want.

It doesn’t effect me, I just said it’s disheartening so many people in Mass will list their used products for same or more than what it costs new.

In other places the market is so soft that the only buyers of used junk are looking for deals. MA is full of rubes and low info types and sellers would be foolish not to laying on that a little bit although when you see some of these ads I start to think that some of these people like looking at their guns more than they want to sell them..... 🤣

THEN DON’T PAY IT!

It is as simple as that.

If you don’t like their price, just laugh at them and move on. If someone buys it at that price, then the market is clearly higher than you realized. The market for guns in eastern MA is not the same as the market for guns in other places, like southern NH.

It isn’t fair or unfair that a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in Winchester is well over $1M while the same house in Chicopee would be 1/2 the price.

I DON’T. And I’m not expecting a deal on nes. I don’t know why you seem to think i’m raging over people’s pricing or something. I do literally use the laugh emoji on their thread if it’s a stupid price.

I made a comment about people here always selling used accessories for more or same as it is new. That there are no restrictions on in this state. They are not market prices. It’s just select retards on nes price. It’s sad, but it doesn’t bother me. I was making an observation.

I just have to shake my head when I see these prices. Case in point I bought a brand new handgun from a dealer for a price I was happy with. While buying I had to think of a NES classified list for the exact same gun used that was priced $500 higher then what I paid. All because they had a could extra mags. To each their own I guess. But it’s crazy.

I’m a haggler by nature and will always ask if there is wriggle room on the price on a used/consignment gun. I’d say 80% plus of the time when I ask, the gun store guy will fess up the sellers lower price. For me that’s great but I’d be ticked off if I was the seller.
After a while, the dealers I've done the most business with fess up right away. They see me coming and they don't even talk "asking" anymore. They talk about lowest the owner will take. Saves time that way. [thumbsup]
I generally don’t sell via consignment but if I did I wouldn't tell them what my lowest price will be.
It depends if you are in a hurry to sell or willing to wait for those phone calls and hear those offers. For what I've sold at consignment so far, the "give the dealer your low price" approach has served me well. But then, chances are about 85-90% that it will end up sold at that low price. 🤔

There are some good deals in the NES classified if you look for them. I've sold dozens of guns to some fine NES'ers...I can count on two fingers the times I sold it for more then I paid.

You are not asking for a buyer's premium over market, but pricing at market. A subtle but real difference.

Infinity Firearms opens its handguns (mostly 2011 style 1911 with an occasional single stack) up to order about once every 6 weeks, with prices generally starting a bit over $8000. Some people are buying these to sell, and the "never fired recent production" market value is north of $10,000.

I've helped some non-shooters who ended up inheriting gun collections place guns on consignment at local stores.

In almost all cases the guns were not fashionable, high demand guns. Think old but not vintage lever guns with a bit of corrosion. "commemorative" revolvers, Star 9mm semi-autos. That kind of stuff. I'll always counsel the person to price them to sell.

This is NES.

Everyone here is an expert negotiator and gets cars for THOUSANDS under sticker.

Everyone here is an expert seller and makes a profit every time.

Like me. If you buy a used gun right and hold onto it for 5 years, you can almost always get your money back out of them. The last guns I've sold, a .32 Seecamp, some pre-ban lowers, and a Gold Cup all sold for significantly more than I paid for them.

But these are all "interesting" guns. If you have a Gen3 Glock, it's always going to be worth less than a Gen 5 Glock. These are "tool" guns. When a better tool comes out, that tool is worth less.

I could probably get more than the $525 I paid new for a 8" electroless nickle Python, the $95 for a Ruger Security 6 or the $80 for a Glock 27 :)

I have never had a problem with FS.
Bought new firearms as well as used.
I have even had them give a smaller offer to consignment firearms and paid less.
I paid a little more than I wanted to for m HK91 but I'm glad I did.

I bought a Garand for $299 in CA in the 90s,had a national match barrel put on it and sold it for $1,399 at FS when I moved back here in 2002.
