Take Action with the Brady Campaign -- Stop the "Shoot First" Law in Massachusetts

In October, Florida became a very dangerous place, and if the National Rifle Association (NRA) gets its way, Massachusetts will be next.

On October 1, the Shoot First Law went into effect in Florida, giving the people of Florida permission to use deadly force as a first resort, even in a public place. The law grants sweeping criminal and civil immunity to anyone who pulls the trigger when they feel 'threatened' -- and specifically denies legal recourse to innocent bystanders killed or wounded in the crossfire, even if the shooter acted negligently.

Click here to tell Governor Romney that "Shoot First" is a horrible policy idea for Massachusetts.

But the Shoot First doctrine isn't just staying in Florida -- the NRA has made no bones about the fact that it plans to export Shoot First legislation to all 50 states in 2006. This is about to become a national disgrace, and will take us back to the days of the Wild West -- unless you get involved.

Our partners at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence have put together an easy way for you to tell your Governor to "Keep Shoot First out of our state" -- and we encourage you to click the link below to get this important message to Governor Romney.

Click here to take action with the Brady Campaign and keep "Shoot First" from becoming law in Massachusetts.

Thanks in advance for taking a proactive stand to stop the spread of this dangerous legislation. Together, we can make sure this law doesn't come to Massachusetts next.

Please forward this newsletter to your friends, email lists, and bloggers you know to help spread the word about this important campaign!

Thank you for working to build a better world.

Why don't just call it "Die now, and shoot never".

Plus there is NO such thing as "Shoot First" unless we're talking "Accidental Discharge" it's really another bullshit term that makes Responcible gun owners seem like rampaging psychos.

Thank you for informing me that my state is considering such a law. I will now be sure to call my state reps and senator to voice my strong unwavering support for such a law and urge them to support this law. Also I will make it a point to let my friends do the same as well as let Gov. Romey to sign this bill the moment it hits his desk.

Again, thank you for the update and am looking forward to more updates as this to keep me informed of issues such as the right to defends ones life.

Thanks, I try.

Should have seen it when some of the Gay rights people came to my door to get signatures to keep the marriage law on the books. I signed it and looked at them and said with a complete straight face "Why should we be the only ones to be miserable in marriage."

Yup, PC I am not.

actually, we should all write them a thank you note.

Oh to be a fly in that room when the thank you notes from the 'gun nuts who want to kill you for looking at you wrong' start pooring in.

They'd interpret them as death threats or hate speech in their tiny, twisted minds. After getting a couple of dozen they'd start screaming about a criminal conspiracy to violate their civil rights by stifling their free speech ("free speech" being a one-way street, as we all know). They'd do some serious editting to make the messages look more threatening and use them as a basis for a new fund-raising campaign. Most of these organizations report their page hits or the number of addresses on their EMail lists as their actual membership, so why would I put anything past them.

What I want to know is why didn't we know that this was being proposed in the first place.

Strangely enough, the subject doesn't show on their website. Tried a full search, with no results.

Could this be a scare-story? With all due respect to Gary, this seems just a bit too pro-active for the NRA/ILA.

OK, I read the full story on the 1st link. ShootFirstLaw.org is a project of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; not part of ActforChange. Lesson: Read the links *BEFORE* I post.
