So the letter mentions constitutional carry for NH citizens. My understanding is that constitutional carry in NH is for all Americans. Ami I correct in that?

Lobbying groups are declaring that the gun confiscation bill is not a 'gun confiscation bill' and therefore Sununu can sign it.
HB696, everyone should read it.

Whenever any peace officer has probable cause to believe that a person has been abused, exploited, or neglected, as defined in RSA 161-F:43 and RSA 173-D:2, that officer shall use all means within reason to prevent further abuse, exploitation, or neglect including, but not limited to:

(a) Confiscating any deadly weapons involved in the alleged abuse, exploitation or neglect.

Dont know how anyone can argue its not a gun confiscation bill when the text of passed bill explicitly DEMANDS that the police confiscate without due process a warrant and dont provide for any due process let alone return of what the bill requires the police to confiscate......

Please tell me it is not a certain purportedly pro-2A organization.

....................................

Now police will be REQUIRED according to the bill to confiscate "weapons" due to " ALLEGED abuse, exploitation or "Neglect" of a vulnerable senior?

Really?.....does anyone proof read stuff before it ends up in a bill?

Our Turn: Constitutional protections go up in smoke

Our Turn: Constitutional protections go up in smoke

As we celebrate the 243rd birthday of our country, we are dismayed by the trampling of our rights that the citizens of New Hampshire have endured.
Shortly after helping pen our Constitutional protections and the necessary constraints on government, when asked “what have you given us” Benjamin Franklin eloquently replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”
The framework that he helped establish when our founders drafted the Constitution included a Bill of Rights that provided strict constraints on the authority and reach of government. These limitations were instituted for the protection of our citizens. Today, our Legislature frequently violates these sacred provisions without fear of backlash from the citizens.
This past week, the majority running the New Hampshire Legislature “torched” what remaining protections that were left under the U.S. Bill of Rights (4th Amendment) and trampled the constraints outlined in the 15th and 19th articles of the N.H. Constitution.
Two weeks ago, HB696 Establishing a Protective Order for Vulnerable Adults, also known as “Elder Care Gun Confiscation,” went to a Committee of Conference with a minimal vestige of due process in the legislation.
The bill that came out of the Committee of Conference removed all remaining due process protections. The bill now openly requires gun confiscation with zero judicial oversight. The ex-parte hearing required before seizing personal property of the accused was removed, and the ability to request a hearing to contest the accusations was similarly removed.
What remains in the bill is the clause that mandates that if an officer believes he has probable cause for something as simple as failing to “maintain the minimum mental, emotional, or physical health and safety of a vulnerable adult,” the officer must remove the firearms from the property. On the eve of our country’s birthday, the New Hampshire Legislature voted to require that personal property must be confiscated upon a mere and potentially unfounded accusation, and the police do not even need a search or arrest warrant to begin the process.
Another major change to HB696 was made at the conclusion of the process. HB696 as originally passed by the House of Representatives had a process for returning the seized property if the accusation was proven false, or when the resulting order expired. Not only does the “compromise” bill remove all pretense of due process and judicial oversight prior to the confiscation of property, it removes any process for the return of the property. That’s right. If you are falsely accused, the final version of the bill removes all procedural ways to regain your property.
The sponsor’s stated intention was to protect vulnerable adults from financial exploitation and other neglect or abuse. That would have been a laudable goal. However, the necessary protections are already in statute. Fraud, assault, theft and exploitation are covered under existing statues. The bill could have created additional methods to facilitate the return of stolen property. The bill could have made it easier to restore to the victim what was rightly theirs or their children’s.
Instead, should we go back to a time of the pre-Declaration of Independence where the trees on one’s property are taken without our permission by order of the king?
Or should one be forced to give up one’s bed and food and cook for an unwanted government official that decided your house was the correct place to hang out for the night? HB696 is a crucial step in heading back down that road.
The passage of HB696 shows total disregard for the principles of liberty upon which our country is founded and utter contempt for the people of New Hampshire. If allowed to become law, HB696 becomes the pattern mold for a police state in New Hampshire. How many other “urgent” situations could government officials imagine in order to justify the denial of due process and other fundamental liberties?
Benjamin Franklin further stated; “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
As you ponder what our Founding Fathers gave us for our country, consider whether we want to protect what little remains of our rights or do we want to let government have a say in everything, including the ability to seize our property without a specific court order?
Gov. Chris Sununu would be wise to protect what little liberty remains and ask the sponsors to draft a bill that facilitates restoration of stolen property instead of allowing government to steal it instead.
(Daniel C. Itse, former state representative and chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Review and Statutory Recodification, and vice chairman of the Committee on Children and Family Law, lives in Milford. JR Hoell, former state rep and co-founder of the N.H. House Freedom Caucus, lives in Dunbarton.)

Is Sununu really going to expand Obamacare in NH and drive healthcare costs up more when the fed gov is poised to strike down obamacare entirely?

Sununu to sign Democrat-backed safeguards to Obamacare provisions

Ellen Joyce, a Lebanon obstetrician-gynecologist and the chairwoman of the New Hampshire section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, pointed to requirements included in the bill that insurers cover contraceptive care as a boon to female patients.

“I have seen firsthand the peace of mind when a young woman gets the birth control that is right for her without worrying about a high co-pay each and every month,” Joyce said.

Really?

The pill costs about $12/month at walmart........

Sununu should be pushing for the decentralization of health care AND health insurance in order to drive down the cost of each.

more competition results in lower costs.

The more providers that are forced into the big hospital systems due to regulation/billing requirements the fewer providers we have and the higher prices go

After reading this and other related threads, it appears that NH might be one Dem governor away from NH being Massachusetts North wrt some of these gun bills. I hope that I am wrong.

Is that the conclusion one is to draw from the last 20 years of elections and legislation thats passed wrt RKBA in NH?

Unfortunately, yes. The Executive Council, the state Senate, and the state House are controlled by the Dems. Both US Senators and US House Representatives are also Dems. Do you really think that you could stop these bills or other more onerous bills if NH had an anti-gun Dem governor?

You are ignoring the simple fact elections for various bodies in NH have gone back and forth for 2 decades.

This is nothing new

What you're also ignoring is the fact that after the LAST dem over reach just a few years ago we not only regained the house/senate but we did so with veto proof majorities and passed a lot of pro rkba legislation in the last 9 or so years

And we did that even with a bunch of squishy progressive GOP types running the NHGOP........from Jennifer Horn on down......the NHGOP was so inept in 2018 that they failed to recruit people to run in a bunch of house races and handed dems a number of seats

The difference now is that we have solid leadership at the top of the NHGOP

Rinse and repeat for most (not all) of the federal candidates......the inept prior leadership pimped nuggets like pretty kelly, scott brown and several others.......judd greg chose not to run for re-election because he realized the gig was up and voters were not going to have anything to do with his squishy progressive votes in the senate.

OBrien v Shaheen? BAM......thats going to be a knock out........

I suspect you'll be able to run a ham sandwich against Hassan after the debaucles she's stood by with multiple felon's in her office and the most recent hack that exposed personal info of consituents that she wont even speak to/own up to......

The roly poly speaker of the house has been breaking the rules of his own legislative body all year and that's going to come back and slap him in the face I bet........

On the other hand maybe I'm wrong

We'll see next year......but the dems cant control themselves and we all know how that turns out

He's not wrong though.
If it was a Dem in that seat right now , you would in fact be up shit creek.

What if
What if
What if

The fact is there isnt and the election for the corner office wasnt really even that close

Sununu's opponent doesnt even look like she'll attempt to run again

It will be the criminal mayor from Manch imho......the one trying to put up illegal cameras to monitor citizens........that fact isnt going to sit well with dem civil libertarians

FWIW, HB696 and HB564 enrolled today. Those bills are one step closer to his desk. Keep up the calls.

The bottom line is if you don't educate your friends, family, co-workers, little league parents, etc of these kinds of things the socialists win. NH is no sanctuary of freedom, it is a hill that hasn't been completely taken yet. The problem is too many people move here from shithole states and think they can relax. You can NEVER relax. The fight for freedom never ends. The people who want to take it are ruthless and will do everything in their power to undermine our constitution. No NH is not safe from anything, guns or not. It sucks be we as red blooded Americans need to constantly fight for our freedoms. The men that gave their lives to push the cuck Brits out literally gave everything, the least we can do is step away from Facebook and Youtube for two minutes and keep the commies from kicking in our front door, because they are. If not fixed NOW the southern border will take down the entire Republic.

I don't think that I'm ignoring anything as I'm looking at the trend in NH. NH was staunchly conservative/libertarian up until the 1990s and now the Dems hold the majority, not only in elected positions but also with the electorate with 44% identifying as Dem and 41% as Republican. Without really knowing, I will assume that the remaining 15% is primarily Libertarian, so if that's true, then it still looks good for NH. OTOH, I do not know enough about NH politics wrt to whether the NH Dems lean left or right. From what I have read, the majority of people that moved to NH from MA have been Republican and the majority of Dems that moved in are from other states such as NY and VT. Maine was once the most Republican of any state but look at it now.

Believe me when I say that I hope that I am totally wrong and you are totally right since I have family in NH/ME and I am looking for a second home in NH. However, the trend that I mentioned earlier scares me. How many of us were stunned when magazines restrictions were enacted in VT even if the restrictions are hard to enforce?

As Derek notes, the fight to keep our rights will never end no matter what state we live in because as we all know, it's the tendency of any government to move towards tyranny, and fortunately for us, the founding fathers were well aware of this. If we think that it cannot happen, just take a look at MA and the current crop of Dems lined up for president in 2020.

I think you're ignoring everything thats been posted about trends in our legislature over the last 15-20 years

Do you live in NH?

Do you look at the primary/general voting numbers and candidates?

Derek is absolutely correct which is why so many people try to get others to make SOME effort instead of ignoring it or worse complaining about it

I've already answered your questions, so I'm not sure why you feel there is a need to keep attacking me. It's the current state of politics in NH that scares me as it is all blue, except for the governor. NH also favored John Kerry, Obama, and Hillary Clinton in the last 3 presidential elections, so until I see NH voting R or L again, I'm going to remain scared. Take a look at this Wikipedia table and convince me that I don't see a hell of a lot more blue than red since 2006, which is more than at any other time in the last 150 years. I DON'T LIKE THE LOOK OF IT!!!

Stop shooting the messenger.

You're not the "messenger".....you're posting false/defeatist drivel.....Politics isnt a spectator sport......

Wikipedia isnt a reliable reference.......

Dont complain/wring hands.....get involved

If you dont want to lose elections then get involved and back solid candidates like OBrien and dont permit shitbags like Ayotte/Brown etc from running/being elected

If we refuse to support progressive GOP candidates in the primary/general election then the big gov progressives in the NH GOP will stop supporting them and wasting their money

Anyone from mass should STFU about NH politics......you've got plenty of work to do in your own state
