Wouldn't surprise me if he's doing it to move to MA and try to take back "the Kennedy" seat that Brown "stole".

I'm amazed he has the intelligence to retire.

Someone in the family must have gotten to him and said, "Look Patrick, Dad's gone, we lost his seat, and there is no one to carry you any more. Why don't you take a nice fat retirement after 8 terms and go play on Daddy's boat for the rest of your life."

I am told that there is no truth to the rumor that he is retiring because he has been informed that he has reached the lifetime limit for drug benefits under the House health plan.

Maybe someone just read him a poll. I truly believe our country is swinging back hard and fast against PC thuggism, greenism, and socialism. It is surprising that men put up with it for as long as we have. MA might have a longer way to travel then more balanced states on the other hand we've been subjected to more of that crap than the more balanced states. Beware of the RINOS full speed ahead.

I see this with mixed feelings. Patches was going to be buried under a Loughlin landslide. The overwhelmingly negative polls are what made the Party machine tell him to retire. Now the Dems have an opportunity to make this into a contest. I'd have been happier with the Republican walkover.

The Dem Party sat him down, and explained to him in simple terms that it was over.

And as mentioned above, go home to Nantucket, and play on the beach ...and don't forget your water wings.

Agreed.

It appears he got 'tapped on the shoulder' and given his marching orders sot he Dems had a shot at putting in a candidate who at least had a shot to win.

I also agree with the statement that the family may have also advised him to drop out since Uncle Teddy could no longer use his 'weight' to cover for him.

He is so incompetent that he can't function without help. Dad's not around to keep him in line. He needs a handler and there is no one left! He's getting out now rather than suffer humiliating defeat at the polls. (Probably at the urging of the DNC).

In his first term, Kennedy waged a legendary verbal scrap on the House floor with the late-Rep. Gerald Solomon (R-NY) as lawmakers debated a repeal of the assault weapons ban.. Trembling and his voice cracking, Kennedy shook his index finger at the then-majority Republicans.

“Shame on you!,” he scolded GOP members from the well of the House. “Families like mine know all too well what the damage of weapons can do!”

Solomon, then the chairman of the powerful Rules Committee, leaped from his chair to challenge Kennedy. He warned his junior colleague that he “ought to be a little more careful.”

“My wife lives at home alone five days a week in a rural area in upstate New York!” Solomon charged. "She has a right to defend herself when I'm not there, son, and don't you ever forget it! Don’t you ever forget it!”

Solomon then asked Kennedy to “step outside.” But blows were not exchanged.

Useless POS. He was elected because he is a Kennedy. Hopefully Scott Brown has exorcised the Kennedy legacy from politics.

I love reading good news first thing in the morning.

This was supposed to play on Sunday according to fox but it got leaked today...
Ugh. I managed to hold my gorge until I got to the part where he gave us the glorious news and then had to stop watching before I puked. Good grief, what schamltz... and what chutzpah it took to record bullshit like that with a straight face.

Well, I think this is bad news.

I think it would be easier fora Republican to beat him than to beat a fresh new Democrat.

I understand where you are coming from, but they would not have beaten him. He would get elected on the Kennedy sympathy vote.. the moonbats here worship him. Not a risk I'm willing to take, I will be glad he is out of office.
