A clerk at a Delray Beach convenience store fatally shot an armed robber.

Police say the apparent robber, who was later found to be carrying no identification, entered the Community Food Market armed with a handgun Saturday night. When one of the clerks hid behind the counter, the robber reportedly shot at him. The other clerk then took and weapon and fired at the robber.

The robber left the store, and the clerks called authorities. Police found the suspect laying face down, holding a handgun, several blocks away.....

Dead Robber Identified As A Suspect In Nov. Murder...

A Lantana man suspected of being the triggerman in the robbing and murder of a Lake Worth convenience store clerk in November has been identified as the gunman shot and killed Saturday night by the manager of a Delray Beach store.

Police this afternoon identified Tyrone Roy Pinkney, 23 of 111 North H. St., let out of state prison only in September.

Pinkney was arrested Nov. 18 on a charge of aggravated battery and using a gun during a felony in an unrelated Boynton Beach incident.

Detectives said at the time they suspected him in the Nov. 13 slaying of part-time clerk Miguel Gonazalez Huicochea at the Los Cunaos Grocery at 819 N. Dixie Highway in Lake Worth.

Pinkney's alleged partner in the deadly robbery, Keith Byrd, 23, confessed after his arrest that he took part but said it was Pinkney who gunned down the clerk, a report said at the time.

Pinkney left jail after posting $150,000 bail on the charges, which later were dropped, jail records show.

Pinkney had not been formally charged in the Los Cunaos incident, but the case was still open at the time of his death, Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said today.

In that incident, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's reports, Gonzalez-Huicochea, 38, of Lake Worth was working at the store when two apparently teenaged gunmen walked into the store about 9:45 p.m., dressed in black and their faces covered in clothing. One carried a semiautomatic handgun, the other had a revolver.

The two pushed and shoved Gonzalez-Huicochea as they robbed him and then headed for the door. The clerk followed. One of the robbers turned and shot him once in the chest.

Gonzalez-Huicochea worked full time as a landscaper for more than 20 years.

His girlfriend said at the time that he'd worked at the store on weekends for about three months as a favor to the owner, a friend.

Pinkney was in state prison from December 2006 to September 2007 on a 2006 Palm Beach County conviction for cocaine sales and again from September 2008 to September 2009, on a 2007 conviction for fleeing.

Jail records show Pinkney also was arrested on drug charges in 2004 and 2005.
