Considering a fixed blade knife for general purpose such as camping, hunting, and fishing.

Thinking about the Benchmade Nimravus or Gerber LMF. SOG Aura or Creed or Daggert or Demo or Trident or SEAL Pup; the Kabar Becker (which one?), or Kabar Campanion.

What do people have, what works well for which purpose?

Or, should I just make my own out of spring steel, and leather washers?

Really digging the:

And the SOG Seal Pup.

As always, looking for a good deal.

Thanks.

KA-BAR Short Version Fighting Knife Black 5-1/4" Blade Leather Sheath is a good buy. I find the std 7" blade to be too large. YMMV
I like the stacked leather washer handle.

My personal first choice is the Fallkniven F1 Swedish Pilot Survival Knife 3.8" Satin VG10 Blade, Leather Sheath sheath. Great all around hunting/camping knife. Mine has the hanging swinger style sheath which is no longer made.

Another one I like to mention: Buck Special Hunting Knife 6" Blade, Black Phenolic Handle. Factory sheath you have to order separate so that is more $ than the Ka-bar. Still a decent knife for what it costs IMHO.

Don't LOL at this one, but there are easy to sharpen, hold an edge well and are LOW $$ - buy a few & keep them around:
Mora Frost of Sweden Clipper Knife 3 7/8" Carbon Steel Blade, Military Green. NOTE these aren't the cheap Frosts Cutlery knives you see on HSN. :P

There are lots of good knives for you. I recently found out about Anza knives and after buying one, would thusfar recommend them. I have knives from Al Mar, Randall and a few other well known makers. Those are great for their purposes, but the Anza is what I would recomend to you for what you have in mind.

I've become partial to ESEE. I don't go for knives that are "tactical". I use knives for cutting, prying, and chopping things, not "sentry removal", and I like my knives to be built for that.

My current EDC is the Izula II. Attached to by bug-out-bag is the large (and thick) ESEE-5. When hiking, I carry the lightweight ESEE-4.

All are great knives, and not the sort a Klingon would carry into battle.

Benchmade Nimravus is a nice knife... I had an older one with the G10 handles... Stupidly I sold it... I'd buy another if they went back to the G10 (now they are aluminum)

Check out the SOG FIELD pup. After trying several different fixed blades I found it to balance well and have comfy/natural grip.............

I agree. My brother has the Nimravus you describe, and I am just now realizing they changed it. Bummer.

ALL: Where did you get these knives, and how much? I like that Kabar and Ezee. Anyone know a place where I can compare a bunch of these at once?

Thanks.

Japan? JAPAN??

If I wanted Japanese steel, I'd just get a Spyderco.

I want Swedish steel on a Swedish knife!

Thanks for the info, though.

What do people think about the SOG Aura SEAL Black TiNi Field Knife?
